スカイリムの出来事の約1,000年前を舞台に、物語はタムリエル大陸全体で展開し、レマン王朝の崩壊後、3つの戦争派閥、アルドメリ・ドミニオン、ダガーフォール・コヴェナント、エボンハート・パクトの間の権力闘争が繰り広げられます。プレイヤーは10のプレイ可能な種族からキャラクターを作成し、ドラゴンナイト、ソーサラー、ナイトブレード、テンプラー、ウォーデン、ネクロマンサー、アルカニストの7つのクラスから選択できます。それぞれのクラスは異なるスキルラインを提供し、異なる装備や武器と自由に組み合わせることができ、キャラクターの構築に大きな柔軟性を与えます。
