Over Enshrouded
Enshrouded is een survival action-RPG, ontwikkeld en uitgegeven door Keen Games GmbH. De game verscheen op 24 januari 2024 in Steam Early Access voor pc. De volledige 1.0-release staat gepland voor het najaar van 2026, samen met versies voor PlayStation 5 en Xbox Series X|S.
De game speelt zich af in Embervale, een ooit bloeiende fantasiewereld die nu wordt overspoeld door de Shroud, een gevaarlijke, verderfelijke mist die de inwoners heeft gemuteerd. Je speelt als een Flameborn, een eeuwenoude krijger die na eeuwenlange slaap ontwaakt en de taak heeft het land terug te veroveren op de wezens en vijanden die er nu de baas zijn. De open wereld zit vol ruïnes, tempels en geheimen om te ontdekken terwijl je steeds verder de door de Shroud bedekte gebieden intrekt.
De gameplay combineert verkenning, base building, crafting en realtime actiegevechten vanuit een third-personperspectief. Met het skillsysteem bouw je je personage op rond drie archetypes: Ranger, Warrior en Mage. Kies en combineer abilities om je speelstijl helemaal naar wens aan te passen. Dankzij voxel-based building heb je alle vrijheid om gedetailleerde bases en nederzettingen te bouwen. In tegenstelling tot de meeste survivalgames heeft Enshrouded geen mechanics zoals honger en slaap. Zo ligt de focus op verkenning en gevechten, niet op het constant beheren van resources.
Een van de opvallendste features van de game is de co-opmodus, waarin je met maximaal 16 spelers samen kunt spelen. Tijdens de Early Access-periode heeft Keen Games regelmatig grote contentupdates uitgebracht. Die breidden de wereld uit met nieuwe biomes, vijanden, quests en crafting-systemen, waardoor de game sinds de Early Access-release actief blijft.
