How to Join Factions in New World: Step-by-Step Guide

Factions are central organizations that shape New World's social and PvP dynamics. They determine who you fight alongside, who you battle against, and what territories you defend or capture.

Each faction has its philosophy, aesthetics, and community. Your choice matters as it affects which guilds you can join and which players become your allies or enemies.

Joining a faction is mandatory for accessing key game features like faction missions, territory wars, and specific equipment. But when can you join? How do you pick the right one? And what happens if you change your mind?

In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about factions in New World so you can make informed decisions about your place in Aeternum.

New World has three distinct factions:

  • The Covenant: A fanatical order that has charged itself with cleansing the land of heretics and defilers so that its true holy nature can flourish and justice can be restored.

  • The Marauders: A ruthless military force bent on establishing a free nation where anyone with the strength can prosper and profit.

  • The Syndicate: A secretive organization of boundless guile and intellect in search of forbidden knowledge to usher in a new age of enlightenment.

Your faction choice determines your allies, enemies, and accessible territories across Aeternum. This decision affects which guilds you can join and your overall PvP experience.

The requirements for joining factions in New World have changed. You no longer automatically receive the "Commitment to the Cause" quest at level 10. Instead, you must progress through several faction quests as you explore Aeternum. These initial quests introduce you to the game's factional conflict. As you complete them, you'll eventually meet the leaders of each faction

After meeting all three faction leaders, you must choose one to join. This decision is mandatory to access faction-specific content and features. Each faction maintains an Enclave in Everfall with its own Fast-Travel Shrine. These locations serve as quest hubs where you'll receive faction missions and continue their storylines.

Can You Switch Factions?

You can change your faction once every 60 days in New World. The process is straightforward:

  1. Press the default key "K" to open your character menu

  2. Navigate to the Bio tab

  3. Click the Change Faction button in the bottom left corner

If you belong to a Company, you must leave it before switching factions, as Companies are faction-specific. Your Faction Tokens don't transfer when you change factions. However, they remain with your old faction and will still be available if you eventually switch back.

Final Words

Joining a faction in New World is a crucial step that shapes your gameplay experience. With three distinct options—the righteous Covenant, the strength-driven Marauders, or the knowledge-seeking Syndicate—your choice determines your allies, enemies, and accessible territories. The joining process now requires meeting all faction leaders through questlines before making your selection. If needed, you can switch factions every 60 days, but with restrictions to maintain server balance.
