Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities and Their Families "Maslačak" Križevci

The "Maslačak" Association in Križevci has been operating continuously for 34 years, serving the city of Križevci and surrounding municipalities, as well as the city of Vrbovec. The Association's activities are focused on children and youth with developmental disabilities, persons with intellectual disabilities (such as Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, motor impairments), and their families.

The Association's activities and goals are carried out and achieved through projects and multi-year programs (as well as forums, public presentations, promotions, assistance to Association members, and public awareness efforts). These initiatives are financed by the European Union, local and state governments, and funds obtained through donations from public company tenders, organizations, and individual donors. The projects have been and continue to be implemented in partnership with other associations and institutions to improve the quality of life and social inclusion of children and youth with developmental disabilities and persons with intellectual disabilities.

The Association partially finances its activities through membership fees and the sale of products created in workshops. However, these funds are not sufficient to cover all the costs associated with the numerous daily activities.

Additionally, a program of half-day care for 30 persons with intellectual disabilities is continuously conducted, aimed at preventing institutionalization, as there is no systemic state care for persons with intellectual disabilities after formal education. The Association also provides personal assistance services for 10 users and transportation services for members with a van purchased with funds raised through humanitarian actions.

Through its long-standing work and commitment to its members, the "Maslačak" Association in Križevci has become recognized at both local and national levels.

The daily work and activities underscore the importance and necessity of civil society organizations and their development and strengthening.

Objectives of the Association:

  • Protection and promotion of the rights and interests of its members, participating in the creation of policies for children and youth with developmental disabilities and persons with intellectual disabilities in the local community
  • Active participation in the development and direct application of the social care model for its members and their families, ensuring equal opportunities while respecting their needs and dignity.
  • Advocacy for and creation of conditions for community living with appropriate support, while promoting deinstitutionalization.

Funds for the "Maslačak" Association in Križevci will be collected throughout 2024.
