How to Unlock More Pet Slots in Grow a Garden

Pets are valuable companions in Grow a Garden, offering passive abilities that significantly improve the overall gameplay. These pets provide various benefits, including adding mutations to your plants, digging up seeds, boosting plant growth speed, and numerous other advantages that make managing your garden more efficient.
You start with three pet slots in your garden. However, the game allows you to expand these slots beyond the initial limit. Many players remain unaware that increasing pet capacity is possible, missing out on the additional benefits that come with having more companions working in their garden.
In this article, we'll explore everything you need to know about increasing your pet slots, including the requirements and the exact steps to unlock additional pet slots in your garden.

Pet Active and Inventory Slots
In Grow a Garden, pets have two separate limits:
Active Pets
Inventory Capacity
Active pets work directly in your garden using their abilities. You start with 3 equip slots for active pets. You can acquire up to 5 additional slots, giving you a maximum of 8 active pet slots total.
Inventory pets are stored companions that aren't currently working in your garden. Players can hold a maximum of 60 pets in their inventory initially. You can increase this by up to 25 additional slots, reaching a total capacity of 85 pet inventory slots.
These two systems work independently. Expanding your active pet slots doesn't affect your inventory capacity, and increasing inventory space doesn't change how many pets can work in your garden simultaneously.

How to Increase Active Pet Slots

To increase the number of pets equipped in your garden, you need to trade in pets at a selected level. Here's how to do it:
Open Grow a Garden
Go to the "Pet Eggs" store on the other part of the map
Talk to "Raphael," the NPC
Select "Show me pet info" from the options
Navigate to "Trade in Pets for extra Pet Equip Slots" from the side panel (the orange icon)
Select the pet that meets the requirements
Click on "Trade in Selected Pet" and then "Confirm"
This will immediately increase your active pet slots. Here are the requirements for each level:
Slot Increase | Pet Age Required |
---|---|
+1 Slot | Age 20 |
+2 Slots | Age 30 |
+3 Slots | Age 45 |
+4 Slots | Age 60 |
+5 Slots | Age 75 |
The maximum you can have is 8 active slots. Once you trade in that pet, you'll lose it from your inventory permanently.
How to Increase Pet Inventory Capacity

Expanding your pet inventory capacity uses a similar process but targets a different upgrade option:
Open Grow a Garden
Go to the "Pet Eggs" store on the other part of the map
Talk to "Raphael" the NPC
Select "Show me pet info" from the options
Navigate to "Trade in Pets for extra Pet Inventory capacity" from the side panel (the purple icon)
Select the pet that meets the requirements
Click on "Trade in Selected Pet" and then "Confirm"
Your inventory capacity increases immediately after the trade. The requirements for each upgrade tier are:
Slot Increase | Pet Age Required |
---|---|
+5 Slots | Age 20 |
+10 Slots | Age 30 |
+15 Slots | Age 45 |
+20 Slots | Age 60 |
+25 Slots | Age 75 |
Your maximum inventory capacity reaches 85 slots total. The pet you trade disappears from your inventory permanently after completing the transaction.

Final Words
Expanding your pet slots takes patience but dramatically improves your garden's productivity. Keep your pets fed to age them faster, and plan which ones you're willing to trade since the process is permanent. Having 8 active pets with stacked abilities makes the effort worthwhile.
