Dune Awakening Deep Desert Works Best in Single-Player

The Dune: Awakening Deep Desert holds the best materials in the game, and for its first ten months, most of that zone was PvP. Funcom has since split the zone into separate Deep Desert PvE and Deep Desert PvP instances on official servers, then added a full Dune: Awakening single-player mode on top.
In our Dune: Awakening review, we argued that single-player is what makes the endgame work. This page puts that claim side by side with both official options, so you can see where each version of the Deep Desert pays off and where it costs you.
Dune: Awakening Single Player Summary

Since patch 1.3.20.0, every official World runs at least one PvE and one PvP Deep Desert instance.
Deep Desert PvP pays 2.5x on mining and harvesting, with combat from row B outward.
Deep Desert PvE has no player combat anywhere.
In single-player, the Coriolis Storm no longer kills you instantly or wipes the Deep Desert, so progress stays.
The Exchange works as a vendor in solo mode, and Update 1.5 removed Spice Melange from the build cost of key endgame stations for everyone.
How the Deep Desert Split Works on Official Servers

Patch 1.3.20.0 arrived at the end of April 2026 and gave every official World at least one PvE and one PvP Deep Desert instance. The instance selector now labels which type you're entering from the Overland, per the official 1.3.20.0 patch notes. Hagga Basin went fully PvE in the same patch, Shipwrecks included.
The PvP instance went back to launch conditions, with open combat starting from the B row outside the Shieldwall. The PvE instance has no hostile player areas anywhere. When Funcom announced the split, it said more than 80% of its lifetime players had engaged only with PvE content.
Feature | Official PvE instance | Official PvP instance | Single-player |
|---|---|---|---|
Player combat | None | From row B outward | No other players |
Mining and harvesting yield | Base | 2.5x | Set by your harvesting multiplier |
Coriolis Storm | Weekly wipe (launch rule) | Weekly wipe (launch rule) | No instant death, no wipe |
The Exchange | Player market | Player market | Vendor |
At launch, Funcom set the Coriolis Storm to hit official servers every Tuesday during the daily restart, wiping the Deep Desert. Funcom has not restated that schedule for Update 1.5, so we treat it as the standing rule online.

Is the 2.5x Deep Desert PvP Bonus Worth the Risk?
For an organized guild, yes. For a solo player or a pair, rarely. The 2.5x multiplier turns 10 ore into 25 and cuts the number of trips. Your inventory and vehicle storage don't grow with it, though, and dying out there can hand the whole haul to whoever killed you.
After the split, one camp on the Steam forums claimed PvE players now had the edge, getting Titanium, Stravidium and blueprints without risk. Others pointed out that PvP players can enter the PvE instance whenever they like, so nobody is locked out of anything. A third view held that PvP needs its own reasons to exist beyond a yield bonus.
Before the split, the old PvE strip was thin enough that one Steam player counted only 21 Titanium nodes across the entire PvE section, roughly what a single PvP island held. A full PvE instance opens the whole map without combat, though you still share every node with the rest of your World.
If your crew can defend a spice harvest against other guilds, Deep Desert PvP is the fastest route to Tier 6. Smaller groups risk spending the bonus on replacing lost vehicles and gear.
Why Dune Awakening Single-Player Makes the Endgame Work
Update 1.5 launched on September 17, 2026, ahead of the September 22 console release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Per the Update 1.5 announcement, single-player includes the full map, every storyline and three difficulty presets, or manual control over each setting.
In solo mode, the Coriolis Storm stays dangerous but no longer kills you on the spot or wipes the region, so your progress there carries over. Funcom lists it under single-player only.
The Exchange acts as a vendor with a large catalog, and in our review we bought the parts we needed instead of waiting on listings. Update 1.5 also removed Spice Melange from the build cost of the Advanced Garment, Survival, Vehicle and Weapons Fabricators, the Medium Chemical Refinery and the Augmentation Station. That change applies on every server, and Funcom framed it as putting the endgame within reach of solo players.
Landsraad, rebuilt for 1.5, now runs on repeatable combat, crafting, gathering, exploration and sabotage missions, and in single-player it simulates rival guilds so the competition moves without you. Those missions feed the Augmentation system, which adds permanent modifiers to unique Tier 6 weapons and armor.
FAQs About Dune: Awakening Single Player

Final Words
The split fixed the fairness problem, and single-player solved the time problem. Deep Desert PvE gives you safe access, but you still share nodes and a player market with your World, under the weekly storm rule set at launch. Deep Desert PvP adds speed for groups who can defend what they gather. Solo play keeps your Deep Desert progress and turns the Exchange into a shop.
A solo run is slower. Without the 2.5x yield or a guild to split the grind, Tier 6 takes longer to reach, and adjusting the harvest rate in settings is the honest way to tune that.
Funcom hasn't said whether the no-wipe Deep Desert could come to official PvE instances, and crossplay is only confirmed for some point after launch. Watch the patch notes for both, since either would change which version suits you.
