How the GTA 6 Police System Works Now
Six stars is the headline number, one more than GTA 5 gave you. One star is a nuisance you shake in two blocks. Six is a state of emergency you caused.
The bigger shift is that being wanted and being identified have split apart. Police can respond to a robbery knowing a crime happened and nothing else, which shows as an empty, outlined star. Once they have something to go on it fills in, though no official legend for the star states exists yet.
The area around the crime stays a live search zone until things cool off. At six stars that search covers the whole map, so no corner of Leonida is left to park in and wait.
Crimes Only Count If Somebody Reports Them
This is the change with the widest knock-on effect. No siren fires the moment you pull a trigger, since the cops have to hear about it first.
Three things can make that call: a bystander phoning it in, an alarm going off mid-robbery, or the car you stole reporting its own position. A job with no witnesses, no alarm and no tracker may never reach them at all.
Those trackers are the trap most players will fall into. High-end cars carry them, cruisers do too, and the better ones stay quiet at speed and start beeping as you slow. Selling a stolen car means stripping the tracker at a fence.
Police also stop treating a crime as over once you leave. Rob a store and officers can hold a perimeter in case you come back, turning a familiar getaway route into the worst road you can take.

Under your stars sits a row of icons, one per piece of evidence the police hold. Six have turned up so far, and those are your six ways to get caught.

Clear all six and the GTA 6 wanted system has nothing left to match you against. Half measures don't count: a full outfit change is what clears the clothing marker, and a mask only helps if it's on before the cameras and witnesses get a look. Evidence can also outlive the chase, sitting there after your stars are gone.
No More Police Dots On The Minimap
Police and enemies no longer show as dots on the minimap. Finding them is a job for the Focus ability, which slows things down, marks weak points on people and cars, and picks out threats through walls.
Your map doesn't go blank. The search zone still shows, so you know roughly where the heat is sitting. What you've lost is the exact position of every officer, and that gap is the whole point: you have to earn that read by looking around instead of getting it free from the HUD.
That one missing detail changes how a chase plays. You can't count cruisers at a glance, so you're listening for sirens and watching headlights. Bailing out on foot is often the smart move, and breaking line of sight in something unmarked can roll you through a roadblock nobody stops.
Focus reads vehicles too, picking out the engine block, the fuel tank and the tires, which turns a line of parked cruisers into a list of targets. Getting cornered isn't automatically the end either, since one protagonist can be taken in and the other can stay free to keep the job alive.
