NBA 2K27 Crossplay Explained: PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch 2
You picked up the game, your best friend has a PS5, and you cannot load into the same REC squad. Half the squad is on console, half on PC, and there’s no way to bridge it. That gap in NBA 2K27 has not moved since crossplay arrived with 2K24.
NBA 2K27 crossplay exists, and it covers exactly two platforms. 2K says so on the game's own FAQ, and the support page adds the limits underneath. Your VC balance and the MyTEAM Auction House then follow rules of their own.
Getting this wrong costs a full year. A squad that splits across the wrong hardware plays the whole season apart, which is why players check their platform before they buy NBA 2K27 accounts rather than after. Here's what you need to know about who can play with who.

The wording on the NBA 2K27 FAQ page leaves no room to read around it: "Enjoy crossplay and play with your friends in NBA 2K27 across PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S consoles." That covers co-op matches and online tournaments between the two systems.
Mode restrictions do not enter into it. 2K's Crossplay FAQ says "any online game mode can enjoy this cross platform multiplayer between the two systems", so The City, The REC, The Theater and MyTEAM modes like Triple Threat Online pull from one combined pool.
Voice chat crosses the divide too. A PS5 player and an Xbox Series X|S player can talk in-game without falling back on Discord. Both consoles also see Switch 2 rankings on the leaderboards, even though they can never match against those players.
Why NBA 2K27 Crossplay Is Not Available on PC
PC has never been part of it. Crossplay landed in the series in 2023 and shipped as a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S feature from day one, with Steam left outside the door every year since, including 2K27.
So why keep an entire platform out? Cheating, as far as anyone in the community can tell. Hacks are cheap and simple to install, game files can be edited directly, and mods that rewrite how the game behaves have no console equivalent. Operation Sports reported that anti-cheat on the PC build gets bypassed routinely, as it has for years.
Console cheating happens too, mostly through external devices like Cronus adapters, though it never reaches the same scale. Opening console matchmaking to a platform where modified files and input hacks sit one download away would hand 2K a policing job it has no clean answer for.
2K has never published a full statement on the decision, so my read is that the anti-cheat argument is the strongest one available rather than the official one. Buy on Steam either way and your matchmaking pool stays Steam players only, for the life of the game.
Cross-Progression, VC and the MyTEAM Auction House
Crossplay and cross-progression are two different features, and 2K only ships one of them. The support page is direct about it: NBA 2K27 does not support cross-platform progression, only cross-platform multiplayer.
Your MyPLAYER build, badge progress, VC balance and MyTEAM collection all live on a single platform. Move from PS5 to Xbox Series X|S mid-season and you start from zero, even though the two consoles match against each other nightly.
The Auction House splits along a different line. 2K unified the MyTEAM Auction House across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, and the PC side (Steam and Windows PC) trades in its own separate market, so card prices differ depending on where you pull packs.
Pick your platform around the people you play with, since that choice is locked for the year. Plenty of players skip the grind and pick up NBA 2K27 accounts on the platform their squad already uses.

The real damage here is social. One player picking up a Switch 2 for portability quietly drops out of the squad's online rotation, and that stings more than most gameplay changes 2K shipped this year.
Nothing suggests this changes mid-cycle. 2K would need an anti-cheat answer it has not landed across four games with crossplay, and the silence around the topic points to a decision that is settled rather than under review.
Check what your regular group is running before you commit. The platform you choose in September is the one you are stuck with until next September, and no amount of VC buys your way across it.
