Is Fortnite Save the World Free
Yes. Fortnite Save the World has been free-to-play since April 16, 2026, and no purchase is required. Epic paused sales of the paid version on March 11, 2026, to prepare for the switch, so there's nothing left to buy to access the mode.
All players get the full Save the World experience. That means the campaign, co-op missions, and progression systems like hero upgrades, weapon schematics and trap building.
Save the World runs on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. It isn't available on the original Nintendo Switch, smartphones or tablets, so there's no way to play Save the World on mobile.
What Is Fortnite Save the World
Save the World is a co-op PvE mode, meaning you play against the game instead of other players. Up to four players team up to complete missions, gather resources and build defenses. Most missions end with waves of Husks attacking an objective, so the time you spend collecting materials and setting traps decides how well your base holds.
Progress carries over between missions. Heroes, weapons and traps all level up over time, which gives the mode a much longer grind than a Battle Royale match.

Can You Earn V-Bucks in Save the World
Only Founders earn V-Bucks in Save the World. Founders are players who bought Save the World before it went free. They keep earning V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense missions and existing Challenges.
Free players earn X-Ray Tickets instead. They work as Save the World's in-game currency for Llamas and shop items, but they can't be spent in Battle Royale like V-Bucks can.
Founder status can't be bought from Epic anymore, so players who want V-Bucks from daily missions look for Fortnite accounts with the Founder's Pack already on them. Everyone else can pick up cheap V-Bucks for the Battle Royale Item Shop.
