Fortnite V-Bucks Price Increase: What You Need to Know

Fortnite's V-Bucks are getting more expensive. Epic Games has confirmed that starting March 19, 2026, players will be getting fewer V-Bucks for the same price across all bundle tiers, citing rising operational costs as the reason behind the change.

The announcement has already drawn significant backlash from the community, and if you're a regular spender, it's worth knowing exactly what's changing before you make your next purchase. In this article, we'll explore the new V-Bucks pricing, what's changing across the Battle Pass and Fortnite Crew, and the best way for extra savings.

New V-Bucks Prices

The bundle prices themselves haven't changed, but the amount of V-Bucks you get for each one has. Starting March 19, every tier takes a cut:

The Exact Amount Pack (the small top-up option for reaching a specific price) also doubles from $0.49 to $0.99 for 50 V-Bucks. To partially offset the changes, Epic is offering 20% back in Epic Rewards on purchases made through the Epic Games Store or Epic's own payment system on PC, iOS, Android, and web. That credit can be spent on future purchases across Fortnite and other Epic titles.

When you factor that in, the effective cost per V-Buck barely moves. The $8.99 pack now gives 800 V-Bucks, but with $1.79 back in rewards, you're effectively paying $7.20, which works out to roughly $0.009 per V-Buck. The old rate was $8.99 for 1,000 V-Bucks, also around $0.009 per V-Buck. For players who buy through Epic's payment system, the real-world value is almost identical to what it was before.

That last point is worth noting. The 20% cashback only applies when you pay through Epic's own system, not through the App Store or Google Play. Epic has been pushing hard to route payments through its own platform ever since its legal battles with Apple and Google, and this pricing structure gives players a clear financial incentive to do exactly that. Rather than splitting revenue with platform storefronts, Epic keeps the full amount, which likely has more to do with this change than rising server costs.

Pass Price Changes

The V-Bucks adjustments extend across every pass in the game. Here's how each one changes:

800 V-Bucks

Battle Bundle

2,800 V-Bucks

2,600 V-Bucks

OG Pass

Music Pass

1,400 V-Bucks

1,200 V-Bucks

LEGO Pass

The Battle Pass previously cost 1,000 V-Bucks and rewarded up to 1,500 V-Bucks across the main track and Bonus Rewards. Under the new structure, it costs 800 V-Bucks and rewards 800 V-Bucks on completion, just enough to purchase the next one, but the Bonus Rewards V-Bucks are gone entirely.

Fortnite Crew Changes

Fortnite Crew subscribers are also taking a hit. The monthly V-Bucks grant drops from 1,000 to 800, meaning subscribers get less currency for the same subscription price each month.

Epic confirmed that Crew members will receive a region-specific email with details on when exactly the change kicks in for their area. On the upside, existing V-Bucks gift cards will still be redeemed at their printed value, so any cards purchased before March 19 won't be affected by the new rates.

Where to Buy V-Bucks

With prices going up, some players will look for alternatives to buying V-Bucks directly from Epic. Third-party gaming marketplaces are a common route, offering V-Bucks at competitive rates through verified sellers.

If you go that route, stick to established platforms with a solid track record and buyer protection, like GameBoost. The main thing to avoid is unofficial sellers promising discounted V-Bucks through account top-ups or generator sites. Epic flags suspicious transactions, and accounts tied to those can get banned.

The safest approach when looking to buy V-Bucks through a third-party is checking that the platform has verified reviews, proper transaction protection, and responsive support before going through with any purchase.

Final Words

The V-Bucks price increase is real, but if you're buying through Epic's payment system, the actual value you're getting hasn't changed much. The bigger takeaway here is that Epic is actively steering players away from third-party storefronts, and this pricing structure is a direct part of that. If you haven't already, it's worth making your V-Bucks purchases through the Epic Games Store to take full advantage of the 20% cashback.
