Genshin Impact pairs open-world exploration with puzzle-heavy world quests that reward careful observation. The Let Not All Rivers Run Dry quest sends Travelers into Novokitezhgrad to restore the river alongside Glinin and Lady Thrud.

Every puzzle on the route runs on one light-based system. Luminous Lamp Crystals, Light-Focusing Pedestals, and Refraction Mechanisms redirect a Luminous Beam toward the Blightkristall blocking the way forward. How to Trigger the Let Not All Rivers Run Dry Quest

Glinin and Lady Thrud

The quest sits at the end of a short chain of Novokitezhgrad world quests. Players need the earlier steps done before the Blightkristall mission appears.

Each quest in the chain has a specific job.

Quest

What Happens

To the Kristall City

Train ride to Novokitezhgrad, a long cutscene introducing Koshkin and Glinin, and a Shadow Realm clear at the railway platform

Citadel of the Ancient Fae

Overlook Novokitezhgrad, walk the streets to the plaza, talk to Thrud and the other fae, and head to the tavern with Koshkin and Glinin

Let Not All Rivers Run Dry

Follow Glinin and Lady Thrud from Teplo Oasis into the ruins beneath the Blightkristall

Finishing Citadel of the Ancient Fae triggers the Let Not All Rivers Run Dry quest directly. The quest asks Travelers to restore the river in Downtown Novokitezhgrad and investigate the Blightkristall with two companions at their side.

Reaching the Blightkristall at Teplo Oasis

Using cart from the station to Teplo Oasi

The route to the first puzzle runs through a station and a cart ride before the ruins open up.

The steps below cover the trip from the station to the Blightkristall.

  1. Head for the station that is bound for the Oasis.

  2. Take the cart from the station to Teplo Oasis.

  3. Move to the bridge west of Meeting Point: Teplo Oasis.

  4. Follow Glinin and Lady Thrud toward the Blightkristall.

A cutscene plays on arrival, and the fissure below leads into the ruin. Players jump down and follow the path through the ruin.

Heading deeper unlocks the Luminous Lamp Crystal Ice Construct. The next objective then becomes finding a way to fire the Luminous Beam and clear the Blightkristall.

Firing the First Luminous Beam

 Placing Luminous Lamp Crystal

The first beam puzzle sits inside the ruin and clears the Blightkristall that blocks the way forward.

Each action below builds on the one before it.

  • Use the Eye of Graeae to place a Luminous Lamp Crystal Ice Construct.

  • Take the lamp crystal from the Ice Construct.

  • Head to the Light-Focusing Pedestal and interact with it.

  • Place the lamp crystal inside the pedestal.

  • Aim the Luminous Beam toward the Blightkristall.

Breaking the Blightkristall opens the way forward and starts the next sub-quest in Crystal-Tree Grotto.

The same three-part loop of lamp crystal, pedestal, and aim returns in every later puzzle. Refraction Mechanisms join the loop to bend the beam around obstacles.

Investigating the Crystal Tree and Clearing the Black Crystals

Refraction Mechanism towards Blightkristall

Past the first beam puzzle, move to the cliff ahead and talk to Lady Thrud and Glinin again. Approach the Crystal Tree, head back out toward the glowing symbol, place a Luminous Lamp Crystal Prime Ice Construct, and investigate the symbol on the wall.

The black crystals nearby come next, and Paimon suggests using Light-Focusing Pedestals to blast them. The puzzle runs across two levels of the ruin.

  • Dig the Light-Focusing Pedestal out of the ground.

  • Build a Luminous Lamp Crystal and place the lamp crystal inside the pedestal.

  • Rotate the pedestal toward the blue crystal nearby.

  • Climb to the Refraction Mechanism on top.

  • Rotate the mechanism toward the Blightkristall near the wall symbol to reveal a blue crystal.

  • Jump down to the lower level of the ruin.

  • Tilt the Refraction Mechanism below toward the Blightkristall blocking the door.

Move deeper into the ruins to reach the hall, investigate the glowing room and the large crystal ore, and step outside to meet the enemies there. Defeat them with a well-built team and climb the stairs to search for the Relic. The path ends at the Hidden Tributary.

Activating the Pedestal and Defeating the Elder Blighttree

Newly-Revived Elder Blighttree

The final puzzle chains three Refraction Mechanisms across the Hidden Tributary and ends at a central pedestal guarded by a boss.

The beam path follows a fixed route through the area.

  • Follow the Luminous Beam to the first Light-Focusing Pedestal and rotate it toward the blue crystal in the tower ahead.

  • Head to where the emitted light points and climb to the upper floor of the nearby building.

  • Grab the Refraction Mechanism Prime Ice Construct Blueprint and place it where the beam hits.

  • Rotate the mechanism toward the blue crystal.

  • Leap down, place another Refraction Mechanism where the beam lands, and point it at the flowing blue crystal.

  • Follow the beam and turn the last Refraction Mechanism toward the Pedestal in the middle.

The Newly-Revived Elder Blighttree guards the Pedestal, so the fight comes before anything else. Only after the boss falls can players collect the Relic. Players who want to strengthen their lineup before the fight can check builds for Mitya and Zhongli.

Finishing the Quest at the Crystal Tree

Leave the ruins with the Relic and head back to the Crystal Tree location. Use the Relic on the Crystal Tree, then follow the water toward the exit that leads back to Downtown Novokitezhgrad. Talking to Glinin and Lady Thrud afterward ends the world quest and closes out the river restoration.

Chest and Collectible Locations in the Quest

Chests appear throughout the ruins, and a few sit behind optional puzzle steps.

Each collectible below sits along or beside the main route.

Collectible

Location

Ruin path before the first lamp crystal

Exquisite Chest

After the first Luminous Beam clears the Blightkristall

Exquisite Chest

Exquisite Chest

Cryoculus

Final Words

The Let Not All Rivers Run Dry quest works as a compact lesson in light-based puzzles. Every puzzle reuses the same small toolset, so the habits built here apply to any later puzzle that uses lamp crystals or mechanisms.

Optional chests and the Kristallfly puzzle add real value to a route that otherwise stays linear. A short detour at each stop costs little time and fills out the area before the final conversation closes the quest.
