Wardogs Roles, How Every Class Levels and Earns Cash

Wardogs roles decide how you earn XP, which guns and vehicles you can buy, and how fast your bank balance grows. The game splits combat into six Wardogs classes (Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Driver, and Pilot), and you never pick one in a lobby, since your gear decides it.
Our Wardogs review argued that every role pays but builders pay best. Below, you'll find how each role levels, what it opens up, and why the Support player behind a wall ends up richer than the rifleman in front of it.
Wardogs Roles Summary

Wardogs has six roles, each with its own 100-level XP track, plus a Wardog career level fed by all six.
Assault earns more for headshots, Medic earns more from a defibrillator revive than a bandage.
The Wardogs Support role earns the most steadily by building FOBs and running mortars from behind them.
Driver and Pilot level through transport and supply work and hold the biggest vehicles, such as the L2A6 and the Havoc.
How Wardogs Roles and Role XP Work

Every action you take feeds Wardogs role XP on the track tied to the gear you're using. Fire an assault rifle and Assault levels. Pick up a hammer and Support does.
Each of the six tracks caps at level 100, and a separate Wardog career track sits above them, fed by progress in every role. A new level grants purchase rights, and the gun or vehicle still costs cash from the balance that follows you between matches.
That cash starts at $10,000, and the WARDOGS Steam page says every teamplay action pays into it, from reviving squadmates to ferrying friendlies to the zone.
All levels and item counts here come from Season 1, and Bulkhead has said each season can reshuffle the XP curve and the order items open up in.
Role | Core gear | Earns XP from | Level 30–35 pick |
|---|---|---|---|
Assault | Assault rifles, sidearms | Infantry combat, headshots | FAL |
Medic | SMGs, bandages, IFAK, defibrillator | Healing and revives | Super-45 |
Recon | DMRs, snipers, bows | Spotting, marksman weapon use | AMR 50 |
Support | LMGs, shotguns, launchers, hammers | Building, repairs, anti-vehicle | PKM (level 30) |
Driver | Ground vehicles | Passenger and supply runs | L2A6 |
Pilot | Helicopters | Flight transport, sling loading | Havoc |
Assault, Medic and Recon Wardogs Classes on Foot
Assault is the frontline rifle track. It levels on Infantry XP, offers 33 items, and moves from the AK74 at level 3 to the M4 at 20 and the FAL at 35. Its skills cut recoil and let you sprint-charge through doors.
Headshots pay Assault players more. Assault also earns by standing in the fight, and the fight is where expensive loadouts get lost.
Medic runs SMGs and a medical kit that grows over time: the Field Resuscitator at level 2, the Defibrillator at 11 and the Medical Bag at 24. A defibrillator revive brings a bigger payout than a bandage, so the Medic who picks up downed squadmates earns more than the one patching scratches.
Recon has the deepest item list at 47 items, from the SKS at level 5 to the MK22 at 25 and the AMR 50 at 35. The track adds lockpicking, spotting enemy buildables, and hearing nearby enemy squad chat.
Why the Wardogs Support Role Pays Best

Support earns on work the enemy rarely interrupts. Its real income comes from the hammer: building Hesco walls, fortifying a forward operating base, repairing vehicles and hitting armour.
Its item list opens with the Light Drill at level 1, then C4 at 2, the RPG-7 at 5, the M249 at 15 and the PKM at 30, for 31 items in total. Later skills let the small hammer build medium and heavy structures and make your fortifications tougher.
Our review singled out a Support player who fortifies a FOB around a tower, then runs mortars from behind those walls. The payouts keep coming from a spot the enemy rarely reaches. The verdict called that tilt a balance problem for early access. Defensive building currently out-earns frontline combat, so a squad without a builder leaves its steadiest income on the table.
Driver and Pilot Keep the Team Moving
Driver levels on transport distance, passenger delivery and supply runs. It holds 15 items across vehicles, supply crates and cosmetics, from the Ural at level 3 to the Humvee with a minigun at 30 and the L2A6 heavy armoured vehicle at 35.
Pilot has the shortest list at 11 items, mostly helicopters plus supply crates and music tapes. The AH-6M with miniguns opens at level 4, the Z20 Lakota at 10, the rocket-armed AH-6R at 20 and the Havoc at 35.
Both tracks share skills for fuel use, repairs, impact damage and tougher dropped supply crates. Every squadmate you deliver to the zone also pays out cash.
FAQs About Wardogs Roles

Final Words
The six tracks look even on paper, with 100 levels each. In practice, the role that earns without dying pulls ahead, and right now that's the builder. Frontline work still pays through headshots and defib revives, and a tower full of builders does nothing if nobody contests the control zone.
Season 2 lands on October 15, and Bulkhead is still early in a one-to-two-year early access plan. Watch whether building payouts get trimmed or frontline rewards raised, since either change would reshuffle which Wardogs roles are worth levelling first.
Until then, put at least one player on the hammer. The walls pay for themselves.
