Valheim Deep North Guide, the Road to Kall Fimbulbringer

This Valheim Deep North guide covers the last stretch of the game, from the first frozen coastline to the fight with Kall Fimbulbringer, the Jotun who serves as the final boss. The biome arrived with Valheim 1.0 on September 9, 2026, and it puts cold, deep snow and a three-part key hunt between you and the ending.

In our Valheim review, the Deep North is what made the whole run feel like a finale. Below, you'll find the route: how to get to the Deep North, what to craft there, and how the boss fight plays out.

Valheim Deep North Guide Summary

Valheim Deep North Guide Summary
  • Beat Fader first, then sail north past the Mountains until the sea freezes.

  • Pack frost resistance, a snow shovel, and a grappling hook.

  • Break petrified Gammeltroll bodies with Ember Charges and smelt the tissue into Bloodgold.

  • Clear Mörkhalla, win the Jotun Invasion that follows, and repeat three times for three Malicious Blood.

  • Use blunt or slash damage, since Kall resists pierce, fire, frost, and lightning.

How Do You Get to the Deep North in Valheim?

How Do You Get to the Deep North in Valheim?

You get to the Deep North by beating Fader in the Ashlands, then sailing north past the Mountains and the ocean band until the water turns to ice. It always runs along the top edge of the map, in every seed.

Fader is the practical gate. Killing him opens the Eternal Pyre, whose Embers feed the Ember Charges you need for Bloodgold. Arrive in Flametal-tier gear and buy Haldor's pocket upgrades for 16 extra inventory slots. Frozen seas change the trip. Ice sheets drift along the shore and can wreck a ship. Land at the first flat, safe stretch of coast and put down a portal, a bed and a workbench.

Link that portal to your main base. The Deep North chain sends you back to your Black Forge and Blast Furnace constantly, and a direct route home saves hours of sailing.

Surviving Snow, Ice and Freezing Cold

The cold works like it does in the Mountains. Without frost resistance you take continuous Freezing damage, so bring Frost Resistance Mead, the right food or a frost cape.

Snow lies so deep that you can't build until you clear it with the new snow shovel. Frozen lakes are slippery, and some ice cracks and gives way under you.

Passive seals give the pelts you'll need, and hostile moose can be tamed and ridden. Learn Gammeltrolls early, though. These ancient trolls sit at around 3,000 health, and the whole gear chain in the next section begins with their bodies.

Deep North Progression, From Bloodgold to Malicious Blood

Deep North progression runs on Bloodgold. Craft Ember Charges from Embers and Seal Pelts, use them to break petrified Gammeltroll bodies for Petrified Tissue, then smelt it with coal in the Blast Furnace.

Two new stations finish the gear. The Frigid Kiln turns Ice into Liquid Frost, and the Frost Foundry casts gear from moulds and Bloodgold. You'll also want around 20 Frost Cores, mostly from the Winding Tunnels dungeon.

Step

What you do

Result

1

Find an Intricate Key Mould and cast the key with 5 Bloodgold

Access to Mörkhalla

2

Clear Mörkhalla and break the Malicious Ice at the bottom

A Jotun Invasion appears on your map

3

Reach the red marker, beat the Krigen and Hexen, destroy the ice core

1 Malicious Blood

Run that loop three times. Invasions can spawn in another biome entirely, so carry portal materials. Mörkhalla needs a grappling hook or another way to its upper section, and a Vegvisir inside points to the Aesir Passage.

How to Beat Kall Fimbulbringer

You beat Kall Fimbulbringer by bringing blunt or slash damage and outlasting three phases worth roughly 52,800 health combined. Summon him with all three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl in the Aesir Passage.

Phase

Health

What happens

1

10,000

Chain slams, sweeps, whirls and a rushing lunge

2

12,800

Seven Forsaken aspects arrive in waves, Kall takes no damage

3

30,000

Elemental chain slams, ground punches, spike rain and tendrils

Resistances decide your loadout. Kall shrugs off pierce, fire, frost and lightning, and spirit damage does nothing, so bows and staffs lose most of their value. Phase 2 aspects keep their own weaknesses, so a backup fire or frost weapon earns its slot.

In our review playthrough, it took a full group and several attempts. Refresh Rested, repair everything and eat Deep North food before you offer the blood.

FAQs About Valheim Deep North Guide

FAQs About Valheim Deep North Guide

Does Kall Fimbulbringer give a Forsaken power?

No, he is the only Forsaken who grants none. He drops Sacrificial Blood and a Crown Jewel, which becomes the Crown of Valheim with five Bloodgold at the Black Forge.

Can you go to the Deep North before beating Fader?

You can sail there, but progression stalls. Without Embers from Fader's Eternal Pyre you can't craft Ember Charges or get Bloodgold.

Can you tame moose in the Deep North?

Yes. Moose start hostile, but you can tame and ride them.

Do you need a grappling hook in Valheim's Deep North?

For Mörkhalla, you need it or another way to reach the dungeon's upper section.

Final Words

The Deep North is a logistics test more than a combat test. Three Mörkhalla runs, invasions that can land anywhere and a smelting chain tied to your home forge all punish a messy portal network.

Plan your weapons around the boss early. Kall resists pierce and every element, so pour your Bloodgold into a blunt or slash weapon first.

Iron Gate has already pushed hotfixes since launch, so health values and drop rates may still shift. Check the patch notes before a big crafting session.
