How Deepwoken Lives, Wipes and Echoes Really Work

Deepwoken is a hardcore fantasy RPG on Roblox where one death too many deletes your character for good. Monad Studios East sells access for 400 Robux on its official Roblox page, and the game has kept a loyal crowd since its public launch in December 2021.
Why does a Deepwoken beginner guide matter more than one for most RPGs? A bad stat spread or a careless logout can cost hours. Below, you'll find how lives and wipes work, how to build your first character, and the habits that keep it alive.
Deepwoken Summary
Your first death stains your health bar. A second death after that sends you to the Depths.
Dying inside the Depths is a wipe, which deletes the character. Escaping the Depths restores your lives.
Wiping in the normal Pathfinder mode earns Echoes, spent on permanent upgrades for future characters.
Character creation sets your Aspect, Origin, boons, flaws, starting attunement, and weapon type.
Power goes up to 20, and each level gives 15 points for attributes.
Learn to parry. Blocking every hit breaks your guard.
Log out through the menu, never in the middle of combat.
How Does Death Work in Deepwoken?

A Deepwoken character has effectively two lives. The first death stains your health bar, and a second death after that drowns you and drops you into the Depths, starting with Scyphozia, the first layer. You also drop about half your Notes and unequipped items each time you die, though Soulbound items stay with you.
The Depths are your last chance. Escape them, and your lives reset. Die down there, and the character is gone for good, which the community calls a wipe.
In the normal mode, now called Pathfinder, a wipe still pays out. Each wipe gives Echoes, more the further the character got, a currency you spend during character creation on upgrades that carry over. The Vow of Iron mode, added in December 2025, is the harder alternative, where any death sends you to the Depths and banking and trading are disabled.
Leaving with a combat tag will often kill you, and the menu won't let you log out mid-fight, so leave from a safe spot.
Character Creation, Aspects and Origins
Races are now called Aspects. Pathfinder offers thirteen, including Etrean, Celtor, Adret, Canor, Felinor, Khan, and Vesperian. Each has its own look, stat bonuses, and trait, and you get one at random, with a reroll costing 150 Robux.
Your Origin decides where you start. Castaway is the default, and others open up later, such as Lone Warrior, which opens after your first wipe or by beating the Thresher in the Trial of One. You can't change an Origin without wiping.
Next come up to two boons and up to two flaws, then a starting attunement: Flamecharm, Frostdraw, Thundercall, Galebreathe, none, or random. Shadowcast, Ironsing, and Bloodrend come later through quests. Finally, you pick a Heavy, Medium, or Light weapon, and that first choice steers the rest of your build.
Power, Attributes and Combat Basics
Deepwoken levels are called Power, and they cap at 20. Each Power level hands out 15 Investment Points for attributes, then offers cards for Talents and Mantras. Mantras are your spells and special moves, and they cost Ether.
Attributes split into three groups: the base six (Strength, Fortitude, Agility, Intelligence, Willpower, and Charisma), the three weapon stats, and the seven attunements. Plan your build early, since points add up slowly and talents ask for specific totals.
Combat rewards timing. Tap F to parry, which stuns the attacker. Holding F only blocks, and it fills your posture bar until your guard breaks. Q rolls through attacks, the feint cancels your swing to bait a parry, and the fourth basic hit in a row is a Flourish that knocks the target away. Players coming from The Strongest Battlegrounds already know F as the block key.
Finish the Castaway tutorial for a free Mantra of your choice, bank your Notes, rest and eat at campfires, and avoid busy servers early. Starter zones such as Lower Erisia can draw players who hunt beginners. Since access costs 400 Robux, GameBoost's Robux work for the entry price too.
FAQs About Deepwoken
Final Words
Deepwoken punishes impatience more than bad aim. Many early wipes come from fighting with a stained health bar or wandering into a crowded zone. Clearing the stain takes an investment in your next Power level, so do that before you pick a fight.
Your first character will probably die, and that's part of the design. In Pathfinder, Echoes turn every wipe into progress, so treat the first run as a paid lesson in how the world works.
Pick one weapon type, plan your attributes before you spend them, and practice parrying on easy enemies until the timing feels automatic.
