Araxxor OSRS Slayer Boss Requirements, Overview, and Drops

Araxxor OSRS Slayer Boss Requirements, Overview, and Drops

Araxxor dropped into Old School RuneScape in August 2024, and it didn't take long for this massive spider to carve out a reputation as one of the more involved Slayer bosses in the game. It's currently the strongest Slayer boss by combat level, sitting at a very intimidating 890. With that intimidating position, it is no wonder players seek help elsewhere, such as this article. Still, some seek other means, such as purchasing OSRS gold to buy higher-level equipment or grinding for hours until they feel ready enough to fight the big arachnid.

That said, don't let the combat level fool you. The first kill or two might feel like barely-controlled chaos, but every mechanic follows a pattern. You don't need to be geared to the teeth - you just need to know what you're looking at, and that's what this guide is for.

Requirements & Getting There

OSRS Araxxor in the Morytania Spider Cave

You need 92 Slayer to fight Araxxor, plus completion of Priest in Peril to access Morytania. You will also need an active Araxyte or spider Slayer task. Nieve, Duradel, Turael, and Spria all assign these, with Konar able to assign Araxxor directly as a boss task. The slayer level can be boosted from 87 with a Wild Pie if you're cutting it close, but make sure it remains active throughout the fight.

Stat-wise, aim for 85+ Attack, Strength, and HP, with 70+ Defence and 70+ Prayer for Piety. You'll also want a reliable way to handle venom; Antidote++ or a Serpentine Helm both do the job just fine. Completion of Sins of the Father is also recommended, since it opens up the fastest travel routes.

The fastest routes to the Morytania Spider Cave are, as long as you’ve completed A Priest in Peril and acquired some Spider Cave Teleports, which can be obtained by defeating Araxxor. The second option is using a Hallowed Crystal Shard to teleport to the Hallowed Sepulchre, requiring 63 Agility and two long ropes installed on the wall shortcut just south-east. Teleporting via Ectophial to Fairy Ring code ALQ, followed by a short run south past the small bridge, also works well.

Araxxor OSRS Combat Overview

Araxxor spawns in the middle of his chamber and immediately attacks with melee. Move out of range, and he'll close the gap and switch to either magic or ranged, whichever targets your lower defensive roll. He is weak to crush, with his lowest defence bonus sitting at +15 against it. Any solid crush weapon works here. You don't need to be BiS to get kills.

His melee attack maxes at 38 and drops to 5 with Protect from Melee active. His ranged attack also maxes at 34 but stays at 18 even with Protect from Missiles. On top of that, a successful ranged hit drains 9% of your Defence level, and his magic attack maxes at 21 and drains 9% of your prayer points on a hit. Staying in melee range with Protect from Melee up is almost always the right call.

Just know that all of his attacks are calculated on launch, so late reactions won't save you. Staying ahead of the mechanics is going to matter more than fast reflexes.

OSRS Araxxor’s Eggs

OSRS Araxxor eggs and offspring

Nine eggs surround the arena: three red, three white, and three green. The first one hatches after three of Araxxor's standard attacks, then subsequent eggs hatch every six attacks, going clockwise from the south-easternmost egg. Two things happen every time an egg hatches: an araxyte you'll need to deal with spawns, and Araxxor throws out a special attack.

All three specials leave acid pools that inflict venom and ramp up in damage the longer you stand on them, starting from 4 and escalating quickly. The arena fills up over time, so good positioning from the start pays off considerably later. You can also destroy unhatched eggs proactively, and they each have 65 HP. If you fully destroy one, Araxxor skips it and moves to the next in rotation.

Red Egg

Araxxor launches a single venom blob that homes in on you, then leaves acid pools behind as you move for 6 ticks. The key here is to keep moving while staying in melee range; don't stand still or the pools stack up fast under your feet.

The resulting spider doesn't attack directly, but waddles toward you and explodes on contact. At full health up close, it hits up to 80 damage. Step back and let it explode from a distance to keep the damage minimal. You can also lure it to detonate under Araxxor for a nice chunk of free damage.

White Egg

Araxxor will fire venom blobs in a wide arc around your position, leaving acid pools where they land. Spread out if you can, but mostly just don't panic because the splatter is more predictable than it looks.

The spider coming out of this one tends to trip people up. Don't melee the spider directly as doing so bounces 50% of your damage back at you; instead, use ranged, magic, or a halberd from one tile away to kill it cleanly. Vengeance also works as a counter if you time it properly.

Green Egg

A projectile will fire in a straight line from Araxxor toward you, leaving an acid trail as it travels and splattering on impact with the wall. Try to position Araxxor facing a wall so the splash lands somewhere manageable.

Spiders hatched from these eggs attack with ranged for up to 15 damage. Some players ignore these if they're comfortable tanking, but killing them is safer. Be aware that when they die, they explode and scatter acid across a 7x7 area, so don't stand too close when they go down.

The Enrage Phase

When Araxxor drops to 255 HP (out of 1,020), he enters the enrage phase. You'll hear a distinct screech and see him coat his front legs with venom. His Defence goes up by 35, his attack speed jumps from 6 ticks to 4 ticks, and his standard melee gets replaced with a cleave for the rest of the fight.

The cleave is the main thing to learn: it targets a 1x3 area around your position and leaves acid pools on impact. You can dodge it by moving outside the targeted area the moment Araxxor shouts "Skree!". If you miss the dodge, Protect from Melee still cuts the damage by roughly 50%.

Here's the clever part: if you're standing directly under Araxxor when he cleaves, the attack hits him instead, and the affected area shrinks to a single tile. This is the step-under method, and it's the standard way to handle enrage. To bait him into damaging himself, move two tiles into him when the enrage starts.

When he shouts “Skree!”, click him to attack, you'll naturally step two tiles away to swing, then step into him again and repeat. If done right, Araxxor chunks himself for 8–12 damage per cleave. Try to start enrage while the acid pools are still minimal, as the more open floor you have, the easier the step-under becomes.

Notable Drops

Araxxor drops pieces of the noxious halberd - a powerful two-handed slash weapon, along with the araxyte fang, which combines with an amulet of torture to create the amulet of rancour, the best-in-slot melee amulet in the game. Even if you’re not interested in using them, both are very valuable and will sell well on the Grand Exchange.

On top of that, he has access to the rare drop table, meaning dragon items and onyx are on the cards if you're lucky. Elite clue scrolls drop here too, and notably, they're one of the few things you keep even if you choose to destroy the corpse.

FAQs About the Araxxor OSRS Slayer Boss

OSRS Araxxor in background with FAQ text in foreground

Q: Can I fight Araxxor without a Slayer task?

A: Araxxor is a Slayer boss, meaning an active spider or Araxyte task is a hard requirement - you won't be able to attack him without one. Nieve, Duradel, Turael, and Spria all assign spider tasks, and Konar can assign Araxxor directly as a boss task.

Q: What Slayer level do I need to fight Araxxor?

A: You need 92 Slayer to fight Old School RuneScape boss Araxxor. You must also be on an active Spider or Araxyte Slayer task.

Q: What are the best ways to get to Araxxor?

A: The fastest option is using Spider Cave Teleports, which are obtained from Araxxor himself. Other strong options include teleporting with a Hallowed Crystal Shard or using the Ectophial and Fairy Ring code ALQ. Efficient travel becomes especially important if you plan on grinding multiple kills per trip.

Q: Can I boost to 92 Slayer for Araxxor?

A: A Wild Pie boosts Slayer by 5 levels, so you can boost from 87. Just keep in mind the boost needs to stay active throughout the fight, so bring extras if you're planning a long session.

Q: What happens if I die during the fight?

A: Your grave is placed just outside the entrance to Araxxor's lair, so your items aren't lost permanently, but you'll need to get back before the timer runs out.

Conclusion

Araxxor isn't the kind of boss you walk into blind and figure out immediately - but it's also far from the hardest encounter in OSRS once the mechanics click. Learn what the egg colors signal, handle each araxyte type correctly, stay on Protect from Melee, and practice the step-under during enrage. After a handful of kills, most of it becomes second nature.
