WoW Forever Race and Class Combinations: Full List

WoW Forever adds six new race and class combinations to the familiar Classic roster, plus Skyborne options for both factions. Horde players can roll an Undead Paladin, Alliance players can create a Dwarf Shaman, and several other races gain a class they couldn’t play in original WoW.
Your old character idea might now work on a different faction. Before planning a launch group, check which races can play your preferred class and agree on a side with your friends.
The tables below cover the announced Forever roster. They keep Alliance and Horde separate, including the different class choices for each Skyborne faction.
WoW Forever Race and Class Combinations Summary
Forever retains nine classes: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior.
Six existing races gain a class option compared with original Classic.
Undead Paladins bring Paladin to the Horde; Dwarf Shamans bring Shaman to the Alliance.
Skyborne can join either faction. Alliance Skyborne get Mage, and Horde Skyborne get Shaman.
Warrior is available to every playable race.
The Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher is required for Skyborne access. The six new combinations for existing races don’t require that pack.
All Alliance Race and Class Combinations

Alliance players can choose Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, or High Order Skyborne. Use the table to find your class, then compare the available races across that row.

✅ Available · ❌ Unavailable. Skyborne here means Alliance High Order Skyborne.
The new options for existing Alliance races are Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, and Gnome Priest.
Shaman players have one Alliance race to choose from: Dwarf. Druids can pick Night Elf or High Order Skyborne. If you’re planning a character around a particular appearance, check those restrictions before getting attached to a name and hairstyle.
All Horde Race and Class Combinations

Horde players can choose Orc, Tauren, Troll, Undead, or Windshaper Skyborne.
Class | Orc | Tauren | Troll | Undead | Skyborne |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Druid | ❌ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ |
Hunter | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ✅ |

The new options for existing Horde races are Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, and Undead Paladin.
Undead is the only Horde race with Paladin access in the announced roster. Tauren retain Druid, Hunter, Shaman, and Warrior; Rogue and Priest aren’t available to them.
New Race and Class Combinations in WoW Forever
These six pairings are additions to the original Classic selection. Skyborne are a separate new race, so their class choices appear in the next section.
Faction | Race | New class |
|---|---|---|
Alliance | Human | Hunter |
Alliance | Dwarf | Shaman |
Alliance | Gnome | Priest |
Horde | Orc | Mage |
Horde | Troll | Warlock |
Horde | Undead | Paladin |
Dwarf Shaman and Undead Paladin
These two additions change faction planning the most. A group can now include both a Paladin and a Shaman on either side.
For Alliance, that Shaman must be a Dwarf. For Horde, the Paladin must be Undead. Check those choices with your group before anyone starts leveling; the class being available to your faction doesn’t give every race access to it.
Human Hunter, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, and Troll Warlock
These additions offer another race choice for classes already present on their factions.
You can plan a Human with a pet, a Gnome healer, an Orc caster, or a Troll commanding demons. Each pairing also brings that race’s own traits into the choice.
Treat this as a list of available combinations rather than a ranking. Racial tuning is still changing during beta, and a pairing’s appeal depends on your specialization and what you intend to play.
Skyborne Race and Class Combinations
Skyborne choose their faction during character creation. Four classes appear on both sides, with the fifth slot changing between Mage and Shaman.
Class | Alliance: High Order | Horde: Windshaper |
|---|---|---|
Druid | ✅ | ✅ |
Hunter | ✅ | ✅ |
Mage | ✅ | ❌ |
Paladin | ❌ | ❌ |
Priest | ❌ | ❌ |
Rogue | ✅ | ✅ |
Shaman | ❌ | ✅ |
Warlock | ❌ | ❌ |
Warrior | ✅ | ✅ |
✅ Available · ❌ Unavailable.
Playing Skyborne requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition containing its benefits. General Forever access requires a WoW subscription or game time.
How to Choose Your Race and Class
Start with the class you want to spend time playing. Then check the faction your friends have chosen and narrow the race list from there.
For example, someone planning a Horde Paladin already has their race decided. An Alliance Warrior has five choices, so appearance and racial utility become a larger part of the decision.
Consider these questions before creating your character:
Who are you playing with? Forever requires the same faction and ruleset for grouping.
Which class activities appeal to you? Think about your preferred role and the specialization you intend to try.
Do you like the character’s appearance? You’ll spend plenty of time looking at those animations and armor.
Are you relying on an old racial guide? Forever changes racial abilities, and beta updates can replace earlier bonuses.
Avoid copying a Classic race recommendation without checking its reasoning. A recommendation built around a racial that has since changed needs another look.

Final Words
Check the class table before committing to a character, then agree on a faction and ruleset with your group. Paladin and Shaman now appear on both sides, and the six new pairings give returning players more room to change their usual pick.
Once you have a shortlist, compare the current racial abilities and choose a character you’ll enjoy playing beyond launch week.
