WoW Forever: Release Date and Everything We Know

World of Warcraft: Forever gives original Azeroth another future. Blizzard’s new permanent WoW experience returns to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, adding new adventures to the familiar level 1–60 game.

The announcement brings plenty to plan around: Skyborne characters, Undead Paladins, new leveling areas, nine new dungeons, and two new raids. There are also practical questions. Does your subscription cover it? When can you reserve a name? Can your friends join the same ruleset?

Here’s what Blizzard has confirmed ahead of release.

WoW Forever Summary

  • WoW Forever launches November 4, 2026, at 3 p.m. PST. That’s midnight CET on November 5 for Central European players.

  • General access comes with an active WoW subscription or game time. Skyborne access requires an optional paid pack.

  • The level cap is 60, with new content throughout leveling and endgame.

  • Six new combinations include Undead Paladins, Dwarf Shamans, and Human Hunters.

  • Camping adds shared campsite benefits. Legacy adds account-wide points and character-specific perks.

  • The first new raids arrive December 9. Hardcore follows after launch.

What Is WoW Forever?

WoW Forever is a permanent World of Warcraft experience that sits alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic. It begins in original Azeroth, after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core.

Players return to the original continents and level to 60. Blizzard plans to keep adding stories, locations, and activities to that setting. The community’s “Classic Plus” nickname describes the idea well: a familiar starting point with room for new content.

Leveling gets a substantial share of those additions. Early adventures, professions, and mid-level questing all receive attention, giving players reasons to spend time across Azeroth.

Do You Need to Buy WoW Forever?

An active World of Warcraft subscription or game time covers general access to WoW Forever. Blizzard also sells optional packs with extra benefits.

How to Get Into the WoW Forever Beta

Players can opt in for a chance at an invitation. The Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection also include beta access.

Once your account has access, open the Battle.net desktop app, select World of Warcraft, and choose World of Warcraft: Forever Beta from the Game Version menu under In Development. Install the client and launch it.

The beta uses test characters and a restricted content schedule. Check your Battle.net account directly if you receive an invitation you’re unsure about. Blizzard says the beta license will appear under Your Game Accounts.

The New Skyborne Race

wow forever skyborne

Skyborne begin on Zephras Isle, a starting area for levels 1–12. Their ancestors made a pact with elemental wind spirits and built their home within Skywall. Players arrive as those spirits have vanished and the island’s communities face a crisis.

You choose your faction at character creation. That choice affects your available classes and racial abilities.

Skyborne faction

Available classes

Alliance: High Order

Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Warrior

Horde: Windshaper

Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior

Skyborne also receive their own racial abilities, Druid forms, and character customization options.

New Race and Class Combinations

Six familiar races gain a new class option:

Faction

New combination

Alliance

Human Hunter

Alliance

Dwarf Shaman

Alliance

Gnome Priest

Horde

Orc Mage

Horde

Troll Warlock

Horde

Undead Paladin

Forever retains nine classes: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior.

Racial traits also receive changes, and classes get talent and ability updates. Picking your old Classic combination gives you a familiar character concept with fresh decisions to make.

Undead Paladins have their own story connections. Their place among the Forsaken follows events in the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, with local quests addressing their use of the Light.

New Zones and Changes to Azeroth

New areas and additions to existing locations give players more routes through the original continents.

Area

What Blizzard has announced

Mount Hyjal

A return to the aftermath of Archimonde’s defeat and the recovery of the region

Riverglades

A large mid-level questing area connected to the Eastern Kingdoms

Shen’dralas

An area tied to Eldre’Thalas and the stories south of Desolace

Zephras Isle

The Skyborne starting area for levels 1–12

Riverglades adds a substantial questing route around the mid-30s to mid-40s. Its Powderfuse Port connects to a new ship route from Tanaris.

Existing areas also get attention. Wetlands gains quests, Desolace receives more centaur faction content, and starting areas gain new NPCs and profession-related activities. New ship routes help players travel between the continents.

The changes extend beyond characters who choose the new race.

New Dungeons and Raids

wow forever barrow deeps

Blizzard has announced nine new dungeons:

  • Hall of Thanes

  • Ruins of Lordaeron

  • Excavation Site

  • City of Dalaran

  • Drowned City

  • Krol’dok Stronghold

  • Alcaz Prison

  • Blackmaw Hold

  • Shaper’s Terrace

These additions turn familiar landmarks and long-discussed locations into group adventures across different stages of leveling.

The first two new raids are Barrow Deeps, a 10-player raid, and Hyjal Summit, a 20-player raid. They’re scheduled to open on December 9, 2026, after the November launch.

Blizzard has also announced more dungeons, raids, world content, and an updated version of an existing iconic raid for later updates.

Camping and Profession Changes

Camping turns a Cooking campfire into a shared rest stop. Nearby players can contribute crafted objects that provide buffs or useful services, including repairs, vendors, and profession workspaces.

Different professions contribute different objects, giving players reasons to stop and share a campsite before returning to their quests. More advanced recipes add further camp features.

Professions also receive more than 600 new recipes across different skill and character levels.

How the Legacy System Works

Legacy rewards progress across your account through challenges tied to leveling, professions, dungeons, raids, PvP, and other activities.

Completing a challenge earns a Legacy Point. Each character spends your account’s points independently across three perk trees: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness.

At launch, each character can spend up to 16 points. The initial system contains 65 challenges, with additional points contributing to cosmetic rewards.

Alts give you more ways to complete challenges, and one character can earn enough points to reach the spending cap.

Rulesets, Grouping, and Hardcore

Forever replaces the traditional server-selection process with a ruleset choice.

Ruleset

What to expect

Normal

Questing and group play, with voluntary open-world PvP

PvP

Faction conflict in contested territory

Roleplaying

A community focused on character roleplay

Hardcore

Permanent-death play, arriving after launch

Choose the same faction and ruleset as your friends if you want to quest, run dungeons, and raid together. Cross-ruleset grouping and Horde–Alliance grouping aren’t supported.

You also can’t freely switch rulesets on the same character. Starting under another ruleset requires a new character, with a transfer option for dead Hardcore characters once that feature becomes available.

PvP Changes and Darkspear Islands

Forever separates PvP progression into Honor and Rank Points.

Honor acts as a currency for PvP gear. Rank Points advance your character through ranks toward Grand Marshal or High Warlord, with weekly limits on rank progression.

Seasonal tasks provide another way to earn rewards and contribute to Legacy progress.

There’s also a new battleground: Darkspear Islands, featuring 15-versus-15 matches with control points and flag captures.

Visual Options, Transmog, and Controller Support

Players can choose modern or Classic visual presets and HD or SD character models. Blizzard has also announced official gamepad support.

Transmog is optional. You can turn it off to see other players’ equipped gear, or use it to collect and display appearances. Choosing Classic Mode disables transmog when you first enter the game.

Those options let you decide how Forever looks and how you control your character.
