All Fortnite Ranks in Order and How Ranked Works

Fortnite ranks show where you stand against the rest of the lobby, on a ladder that runs from Bronze to Unreal. Ever won a Victory Royale and watched your bar barely move? The answer sits in how Fortnite ranked scores you.
Fortnite has run ranked play since May 2023, and the system has changed a lot since then. Battle Royale and Zero Build now share one rank, the top of the ladder got extra tiers, and the very best players can earn a status above Unreal.
This page explains all Fortnite ranks in order, how progress works, what resets each season, and how many players reach the top.
Fortnite Ranks Summary
Fortnite has 8 ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal.
Bronze through Champion have three divisions each, since update v40.20 split Elite and Champion.
Placement matters most, eliminations help, and stronger lobbies give more progress.
Battle Royale and Zero Build share one rank; Reload keeps its own.
Ranks partly reset every season, but your hidden skill rating carries over.
Unreal Legends needs Unreal, a 2,500 skill rating, and a top 500 leaderboard spot.
All Fortnite Ranks in Order

Fortnite ranked has eight ranks, starting at Bronze and ending at Unreal. According to Epic's own ranked guide, you get access by finishing the Kickstart quest to outlast 500 players, then switch on Ranked from the lobby's mode selection.
Rank | Divisions | What it means |
|---|---|---|
Bronze | I, II, III | Starting point for most players |
Silver | I, II, III | Average ranked player |
Gold | I, II, III | Above the typical lobby |
Platinum | I, II, III | Consistent top-half finishes |
Diamond | I, II, III | Strong, experienced players |
Elite | I, II, III (since v40.20) | Roughly the top 10%, per community data |
Champion | I, II, III (since v40.20) | Roughly the top 5%, per community data |
Unreal | None, leaderboard position | The highest rank |
Divisions run upward, so Bronze III sits just below Silver I. Unreal swaps divisions for a live leaderboard number in your region and mode.
Elite and Champion launched as single tiers in 2023. Update v40.20 in April 2026 split both into three divisions, making the climb from Diamond to Unreal longer.
How Does Fortnite Ranked Work?
Fortnite ranked moves your progress bar based on two things: where you place and how many eliminations you get. Epic's explanation of ranked progress puts it simply, with a higher finish and more eliminations both earning a bigger jump toward the next tier.
Placement carries most of the weight, so a quiet top-five finish often beats a big-kill game that ends early.
Lobby strength counts too: a hidden skill rating sits behind your badge, and outplacing higher-ranked players gives more progress.
Battle Royale and Zero Build have shared one ranked progress bar since update v40.00 in Chapter 7, so a good build game helps your no-build rank too. Reload keeps a separate ladder, and so does Rocket Racing.
Rank Resets, Demotion and Unreal Legends
Ranks partly reset at the start of each new season. Your visible badge drops, but since Chapter 7 Season 3, your hidden skill rating carries over, so most players settle back near their old rank within a handful of matches.
Epic's ranked guide says that once you reach Elite, you can't be demoted below it for the rest of that season, and below Elite a bad run of placements can drop you a division.
Unreal is safe for the rest of the season once you reach it. Above it sits Unreal Legends, a status Epic announced in May 2026. You need Unreal rank, a skill rating of at least 2,500, and a top 500 leaderboard spot, all in the same ranked season.
Falling below any one of those three requirements removes Unreal Legends status. That makes it the only part of the top ladder you can lose mid-season.
Ranked Rewards and Where Most Players Sit
Every ranked match hands out a Ranked Urgent Quest, and completing them earns seasonal cosmetics such as sprays, loading screens, and wraps. Some change style based on your highest rank that season.
Ranked never pays out V-Bucks. Any site promising free V-Bucks for reaching a rank is a scam, so treat those offers like any other phishing link and keep 2FA switched on.
Community tracker data from September 2026 puts almost half of tracked players in Bronze and only about 1.7% in Unreal. Epic doesn't publish official numbers, so treat these as an estimate.
Fortnite accounts with old ranked cosmetics and a deep locker hold their value, and V-Bucks cover any Item Shop picks between ranked sessions.

Final Words
The biggest change to Fortnite ranks in 2026 is the skill rating carry-over. A reset now costs you a few matches instead of a whole season, which rewards players who stay consistent over months.
Eliminations feel exciting, yet the ladder still pays out most for survival, so players stuck in Gold usually climb faster by playing for placement.
Epic has adjusted ranked scoring with almost every big update this year, so Chapter 8 could easily bring the next round of changes.
