Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege Classes and Mission Types

Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege kept us playing long after the campaign ended. The Coalition stretched the series' wave-survival formula to 12 players on the largest Horde maps it has built, then split the work between four Horde Siege classes and three Horde Siege mission types.

Our Gears of War: E-Day review gave the mode one section. Below, you'll find how a match plays out, what each class brings, and which mission length fits your evening.

Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege Summary

  • Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege puts 12 players on one map as three squads of four, each running its own objectives.

  • The four Horde Siege classes are Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic, each with 30 levels of progression.

  • Horde Siege mission types: Blitz (15–20 min), Siege (20–40 min), and Horde (10 waves, up to 50–60 min).

  • Weapon Parts only stay yours if at least one squad member extracts on the Raven.

  • Squads with all four classes covered held up best in our sessions.

How Does Horde Siege Work in Gears of War: E-Day?

How Does Horde Siege Work in Gears of War: E-Day?

Horde Siege drops up to 12 players onto one Kalona map as three squads of four, and each squad runs its own missions. The Coalition calls it a 12-player evolution of classic Horde in its official multiplayer breakdown.

Objectives come in five kinds: Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, and Horde, most of them built around R.I.G.s. Completing them and killing Locust fills a shared squad pool of Energy, which you spend at Supply Caches to buy equipment, upgrade Squad Perks, or pick up a new weapon.

Optional objectives pay out Weapon Parts, free equipment, and Squad Perks. Fallen players drop COG tags that squadmates can carry to any Supply Cache for a revive, and a player from another squad can grab them for an instant one. Your squad loses a life only when everyone in it goes down, and running out of lives fails the mission with partial XP.

After the main objectives, your squad clears a landing zone and holds it until a Raven arrives. Invasion events bring bosses such as a Corpser or a Brumak onto the map, sometimes disabling caches or blocking extraction.

Horde Siege Classes and What Each One Brings

Horde Siege launches with four classes, each with its own tactical gear and passive bonus. Every class has 30 levels, and leveling up opens new loadout weapons and equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods.

Class

Role

Tactical gear

Passive

Assault

Mid-range fighter

Sonic Disruptor stuns incoming waves

Extra damage in cover

Breacher

Close-range frontliner

Adrenaline Injector refills health and reduces damage

Resists status effects and melee damage

Marksman

Long sightlines

Pulse Drone tags Locust units

Higher critical hit damage

Medic

Healer and reviver

Stim Vaporizer heals and revives any Gear in range, other squads included

Faster health regen

Our squads did best with all four classes covered. In the matches where nobody picked Medic, the squad fell apart by the late objectives.

Weapon customization is shared across classes. Mods you put on a Prototype Lancer as Assault stay on that Lancer when another class equips it.

Horde Siege Mission Types, From Blitz to Classic Horde

The Coalition lists three mission types:

Mission type

Length

Structure

Best for

Blitz

15–20 min

1–2 objectives

Quick runs

Siege

20–40 min

Several objectives across the map

A full session

Horde

Up to 50–60 min

10 waves with limited support

Classic Horde fans

Blitz is the easy entry point. One beta player said the short commitment raised their interest in the full game.

Siege keeps squads moving between objectives. Our review missed the slow fortifying of older Horde, and some veteran beta players felt the same, though others compared it favorably to Helldivers.

Horde missions serve that crowd by having your squad dig in at one spot and set up defenses. The game suggests a difficulty based on class level (Infantry for levels 10–20, Commander for 20–30, Allfather for max-level classes), and the final pick is up to your squad.

Why Horde Siege Keeps Us Coming Back

Why Horde Siege Keeps Us Coming Back

Our favorite moment came during a Siege run on Golden Quarter, when a second squad arrived with heavy weapons and got us out of trouble. Older Horde modes held five players, so a rescue from another team simply couldn't happen there.

Progress sticks between matches. Class levels carry over, and the mods on a weapon follow it to every class.

Three maps at launch, Golden Quarter among them, feels thin to us. The rotation gets familiar fast.

FAQs About Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege

How many players can join Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege?

Up to 12, as three squads of four.

Which Horde Siege class should I pick first?

Medic is a safe start. Its Stim Vaporizer heals and revives Gears from any squad.

Do you keep rewards if a Horde Siege mission fails?

Partly. A failed mission still gives partial XP, but you keep Weapon Parts only when someone in your squad extracts.

Is classic Horde still in Gears of War: E-Day?

Yes. The Horde mission type keeps the 10-wave format, with runs of up to 50–60 minutes.

Final Words

Horde Siege is at its best when three groups of strangers start trading COG tags and revives like one team. Extraction matters more than kills. Weapon Parts count for nothing until someone in your squad boards the Raven.

New Kalona districts or extra classes would keep the mode alive past its first season.

Start with Blitz to learn the maps, step up to Infantry once a class reaches level 10, and save Horde for the nights you want the old feeling back.
