Minecraft Dungeons II Gear Builds, Enchantments, Talismans

Minecraft Dungeons II Gear Builds, Enchantments, Talismans

Minecraft Dungeons II gear builds carry more choice than the first game offered. There's still no class or skill tree, so your role comes from the gear you equip, and Minecraft Dungeons II enchantments now come from a reusable library of books.

Gear got its own section in our Minecraft Dungeons II review, and for good reason. For the first time in the series, my character felt built on purpose, thanks to more slots and more control over what goes in them.

This page explains how the 12 slots, talismans, artifacts, and enchantment books fit together, plus the rough edges you'll hit along the way.

Gear Builds Summary

Gear Builds Summary
  • 12 combat slots, up from 6: one melee weapon, one ranged weapon, four armor pieces, three talismans and three artifacts.

  • Armor splits into helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots, each with its own perks.

  • Enchantment books go into a personal library and are never consumed, so one book can sit on several items at once.

  • Each item holds one enchantment only. Higher enchantment tiers open as you level up the Enchantsmith.

  • Minecraft Dungeons II talismans are passive, with no cooldown. Minecraft Dungeons II artifacts are active and run on souls.

  • Loot drops fast, so salvage what you replace once the blacksmith is available.

The 12 Slots Behind Minecraft Dungeons II Gear Builds

Mojang doubled the combat slots from six to twelve, and Mojang's gameplay systems breakdown says the goal is room for more builds and playstyles. Armor is no longer one item, so you equip a helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots separately.

Slot

Count

What it does

Melee weapon

1

Close-range damage

Ranged weapon

1

Unlimited ammo that recharges over time

Armor

4

Helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots, each with its own perks

Talismans

3

Passive bonuses, no button press

Artifacts

3

Active abilities that run on souls

Items also have a chance to come with random effects, so two copies of the same chestplate can play differently. Ever picked up a duplicate and nearly salvaged it without looking? Check the effect line first.

Cosmetics sit outside the 12 slots. The Hero Cape goes to players who played the first Minecraft Dungeons and log into the sequel before December 31, 2026. Log into Java or Bedrock on the same Minecraft account afterward, and the cape shows up there too.

How Minecraft Dungeons II Enchantments Work

How Minecraft Dungeons II Enchantments Work

Enchantment books come from Rifts, dungeons, story moments and side quests, and each one joins a personal library. You then visit the Enchantsmith and apply any book you own to any gear slot.

Books are never used up. The same enchantment can go on several items, so an extra-dodge effect like Somersault can stack across your loadout. Each piece holds one enchantment, down from the first game, where a single item could carry several.

That limit also sets it apart from Minecraft Items in the base game, where an anvil can merge several enchantments onto one sword. In Dungeons II, the build lives across twelve pieces, one effect each, and an Effects and Enchantments menu lists everything in one place.

Enchantments can be leveled up, and higher tiers open as you level up the Enchantsmith. Treat early books as experiments. A book stays in your library after you apply it, so you can test a fire build tonight and a crowd-control setup tomorrow.

Minecraft Dungeons II Talismans and Artifacts

Talismans are the new passive category. You get three talisman slots, and none of them go on cooldown. Examples reported so far include bonus health, faster dodge recovery, extra XP and a bone talisman that summons a dog companion.

Artifacts cover the active side, with three slots of their own. They run on souls collected from defeated enemies, and their short cooldowns reward you for pressing them constantly. Bombs, shockwaves, poison clouds and bee summons all fit here.

Builds click when both halves pull the same way. A summoner can pair a companion talisman with a healing weapon enchantment. A crowd-control build can slow groups with ice arrows, then close in with rapid rolls and lightning daggers, and swapping gear rebuilds your hero instantly with no respec.

One player on the Steam forums pointed to four armor pieces plus three talismans as the clearest step up from the first game. The price is the stacked enchantment combos the original allowed, which are gone.

Where the Gear System Still Stumbles

Loot drops so often that inventory management gets tedious. The mini inventory for quick swaps helps early but slows down once you're comparing stacked effects.

The blacksmith, who improves items and rerolls buffs, arrives later in the campaign and brings a salvage-all button. Until then, try new weapon types as they drop. Souls and the early emerald cap get almost no explanation in the game. The cap pushes you toward found gear over merchant shopping, and I'd have liked a single tooltip saying so.

Emeralds are the currency you spend inside Dungeons II. Minecoins belong to the Bedrock Marketplace, which lists a Dungeons II Hero Skin Pack for the main game.

FAQs About Gear Builds

FAQs About Gear Builds

Does Minecraft Dungeons II have classes?

No. Your role comes entirely from the gear you equip across 12 slots. Swap your weapons, armor, talismans and artifacts, and your playstyle changes on the spot.

How many enchantments can one item hold in Minecraft Dungeons II?

One. You can put the same enchantment on several items, though, since books stay in your library after use.

What do artifacts use in Minecraft Dungeons II?

Souls from defeated enemies. They sit on short cooldowns, so using them often works better than saving them for emergencies.

Final Words

The one-enchantment rule spreads your build across twelve decisions. A single lucky weapon drop can't carry a whole run anymore, and I think the game is better for it.

Pay the most attention to armor. Four pieces with their own perks and their own enchantment give you more to tune than any weapon, and random effects mean the best helmet might still be out there.

Nobody outside the studio knows yet how endgame drops and future updates will stretch this system. New books alone could reshuffle which builds come out on top.

For now, collect every book you find, test combinations freely and salvage often. A bigger library means more builds to try.
