Minecraft Dungeons II Sift Guide to Rifts, Tides and Mobs

The Sift is the headline act of Minecraft Dungeons II and the first new Minecraft dimension in more than 14 years. This Minecraft Dungeons II Sift guide covers how the Sift dimension plays, from rifts and tides to the mobs inside.

In our Minecraft Dungeons II review, we made the Sift the real star of the game, and clearing one rift was the highlight of the first night. Mojang's official launch post says the game launched on September 29, 2026, on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Switch, and Switch 2.

In short, you reach the Sift through rifts that act as side dungeons, and three rotating tides change the rules once you're inside. Below, you'll find how Sift rifts work, what each Sift tide does, and what's confirmed for Java and Bedrock.

Sift Guide Summary

Sift Guide Summary
  • The Sift is Minecraft's first new dimension in over 14 years, playable first in Minecraft Dungeons II.

  • Sift rifts play like short side dungeons across the connected Overworld.

  • Three Sift tides rotate inside: Flow (no effect), Thrive (faster soul regeneration and artifact cooldowns) and Endure (stronger mobs, no passive soul regeneration).

  • Pick one tide to build for. Artifact kits peak in Thrive, sturdy armor survives Endure.

  • The Meadows and the Carapace are the biomes Mojang has shown, and the Harmonizer is the boss to prepare for.

  • The Sift reaches Minecraft Java and Bedrock in 2027. Sift portals on YouTube today come from mods.

What Is the Sift in Minecraft Dungeons II?

The Sift is a new dimension that debuts in Minecraft Dungeons II, the Mojang Studios and Double Eleven spin-off, before the main game gets it. Microsoft's Xbox Wire announcement confirms it lands in Minecraft Java and Bedrock in 2027.

It runs on its own ruleset. Shifting tides affect players and nearby entities, and hazardous blocks change how you move through an area. The colors lean pink, blue and purple, with rainbow-colored streams that look nothing like the Nether or the End.

Story-wise, the Illager High Council found the Sift and brought back soul blocks. Their meddling spreads mobs infused with strange energy and patches of sculk across the Overworld, so every trip into the dimension links back to the main plot.

Dungeons II is a separate game from the sandbox original. Seeing the Sift in the base game in 2027 takes Minecraft itself, and Minecraft Accounts are how many players set up a Java or Bedrock copy for the update.

How Sift Rifts Work

Sift rifts are tears in the Overworld that pull you into short slices of the dimension. You walk in, fight through a compact stretch of Sift terrain, then exit on the far side, which closes the rift.

They play like side dungeons and stay brief by design. The one we cleared for the review was the best part of that first evening, and it left us checking the map for the next one.

Story progress opens a second route. Players on the community wiki list a Deep Dark portal activated with a Note Block Machine, plus rifts torn open by the Grand Illusioner's staff. Mojang's announcement posts don't mention either name, so read them as community shorthand.

Sift Tides Change Every Fight

Sift Tides Change Every Fight

Sift tides are cycles that rewrite the dimension's rules. There are three, and they rotate over time.

Sift tide

What it does

How to play it

Flow

No special effects

Clear packs at a normal pace

Thrive

Faster soul regeneration and artifact cooldowns

Push big packs and chain artifacts

Endure

Stronger mobs spawn, passive soul regeneration stops

Save souls, play defensively

Thrive is the window to push. Artifacts come back faster and souls refill quicker, so an artifact-heavy build hits its peak here. Endure flips that. Tougher mobs show up and passive soul regeneration shuts off, which punishes anyone who burned every soul right before the tide turned.

So which tide should you build for? Pick one. A soul-hungry kit loves Thrive, and heavy armor with defensive talismans rides out Endure. Flow sits between them as the breather.

Sift Mobs, Biomes and Bosses

Mojang has shown two Sift biomes, the Meadows and the Carapace, and is holding the rest back for players to find. In our review, the Meadows felt stranger than the Nether ever did, and the Carapace waits further in.

Friendly mobs live next to hostile ones, including furry frog-like creatures and blue bunnies that stack into wobbly towers until they topple. Several hostile mobs carry the Sifter name, and sculk-infused enemies fill out the roster.

At the top sits the Harmonizer, an eldritch boss that brings real threat under all the pastel colors.

Which mobs or blocks follow the dimension into Java and Bedrock is still unconfirmed. Rebuilding the Meadows' pink and blue look in the base game today means working with dyes, amethyst and other Minecraft Items it already has.

The Sift in Minecraft Java and Bedrock

The Sift arrives in Minecraft Java and Bedrock in 2027, with no release month or portal recipe shared yet. Sift portal videos on YouTube use fan-made mods, and their entry rules won't carry over to the official release.

How much of the Dungeons II version makes the jump is still open. Survival, hunger and building will likely force changes a dungeon crawler never had to solve.

On Bedrock, Marketplace creators tend to follow big updates with themed skins, maps and texture packs, and those are bought with Minecoins, Bedrock's own currency.

FAQs About the Minecraft Dungeons II Sift

FAQs About the Minecraft Dungeons II Sift

How do you get to the Sift in Minecraft Dungeons II?

Walk into one of the rifts across the connected Overworld. The campaign also takes you in through a Deep Dark portal, per the community wiki.

When is the Sift coming to Minecraft?

Mojang has confirmed 2027 for Minecraft Java and Bedrock. No exact date or portal recipe has been announced.

Is the Sift in Dungeons II the full dimension?

Nobody outside Mojang knows yet. Visits run through short rift sections, and Mojang hasn't said how much of that carries into the main game.

Can you play the Sift in regular Minecraft right now?

Not officially. Any Sift portal in Java or Bedrock today comes from a fan mod.

Final Words

A spin-off rarely gets to test a dimension the main game hasn't shipped, yet that's the job Dungeons II has here. Every rift you clear is an early look at how Mojang thinks about the Sift.

Tides will decide most of your fights. They reward players who plan builds around timing, and some version of that could reach survival.

The open questions are big: the portal recipe, the full biome list, and whether friendly mobs become tameable. Watch Mojang's own channels through 2027, and play the Dungeons II version knowing it may not match the final one.
