Resonance Puzzles Repeat, but the Creature Hunts Shine

Resonance puzzles revolve around a stolen Minoan sphere that Sophia uses to bend light, and they sit alongside combat and exploration as one of the main pillars of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. The other question players keep asking is about the rats in Resonance. The swarms are almost gone, and a creature hunting Sophia through the dark takes their place as the threat you hide from.
This piece builds on the Puzzles Repeat, The Creature Sections Shine part of our Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy review. We'll break down how the sphere works, why the puzzle rooms start to feel familiar, what happened to the rats, and how the creature stealth sections play.
Resonance Puzzles Summary
The Minoan sphere works as a prism: it reveals hidden marks and paths in the light and splits light into colored beams you steer through lenses.
Sophia's journal records clues, so you can check symbols without leaving the room.
From the middle chapters, Resonance puzzles repeat: beam-routing rooms, often followed by symbol floors.
The hint system is optional, and you can switch it off or adjust how quickly it steps in.
Rats in Resonance are close to absent, and Amicia's sling isn't in the game.
In creature stealth sections, stay behind cover and avoid fast movement, which leaves a glowing trail the creature follows.
How Does the Minoan Sphere Work?

The Minoan sphere is a prism, and Sophia uses it to solve puzzles by manipulating light. Held up in the light, it reveals hidden marks and paths across the ruins of the Minotaur's Island.
Its second use is splitting light into colored beams. You rotate and aim those beams through lenses until they hit the right spot and the door opens. Sophia sockets new pieces into the sphere as the chapters go on, and one of them splits light into three separate colored beams.
Sophia's journal handles the note-taking. She writes down the symbols and clues you spot, so you can check a pattern without walking back across the room.
Puzzle type | What you do | How it holds up |
|---|---|---|
Hidden marks | Hold the sphere in light to reveal symbols and paths | Fresh, rewards reading the ruins |
Beam routing | Split light into colored beams and aim them through lenses | Strong early, repeats later |
Symbol floors | Step on symbols in the right order | Often follows a beam room |
Why Resonance Puzzles Start to Repeat
The first rooms built around the sphere are the most enjoyable, and reading the ruins for clues feels rewarding. By the middle chapters, you're solving the same kind of beam-routing room again, often followed by a floor of symbols to step on in the right order.
Pacing takes a hit when several puzzles stack back to back. The story stalls, and the momentum from the previous scene fades before the next one starts.
The hint system softens that. It's optional; you can turn it off completely, and you can adjust how quickly it offers help. In our playthrough, we needed it only twice, so getting stuck was rare.
Are There Rats in Resonance?
Rats are almost absent from Resonance. The swarms that defined earlier Plague Tale games barely show up, and Amicia's sling is missing too.
Series staple | Earlier Plague Tale games | Resonance |
|---|---|---|
Signature threat | Rat swarms | A creature in the dark |
Light | Kept rats away | Drives the sphere puzzles |
Sling | Amicia's main tool | Not in the game |
Combat | Stealth first | Melee with parries |
Fights lean on melee combat with parries and powerful strikes, as the official Steam page describes, against the army chasing Sophia across the island.
For series fans, this is the biggest adjustment. Resonance keeps the Plague Tale name and universe, minus the mechanic most players link to it.
How the Creature Stealth Sections Work

A creature hunts Sophia through the darkness, and the official description says you can't stop, only hide, outsmart it, and push forward. When it hunts you, Sophia has to slow down and stay behind walls, pillars,s and boulders.
Speed gives you away. Fast movement leaves a glowing trail of blue particles, and the creature follows it back to Sophia. Crouching or moving slowly keeps the trail from forming, and protected braziers give you a safe spot.
We found these the most memorable sections in Resonance. More than once, a creature hunt had us holding our breath, something no sword fight in the game managed. They're also scarce, and the creature never grows into the constant threat the rats were in earlier games.
FAQs About Resonance Puzzles
Final Words
Is losing the rats a fair trade? Resonance replaces swarm control with reading ruins and bending light, and the sphere is a clever enough tool to carry that. The journal also spares you a lot of backtracking for clues.
Repetition drags the middle chapters down. Set the hint system to step in a little sooner, so the familiar beam rooms move quickly, and you get back to the story.
The creature gives Resonance its best moments. Keep your pace slow, pick your cover early, and those hunts end up as the part of the game you remember longest.
