Star Wars: Galactic Racer Multiplayer Turns Races Into Builds

Online play was the part we expected the least from, and it turned into the surprise hit of our Star Wars: Galactic Racer review. Fuse Games squeezed the campaign's roguelite runs into Star Wars: Galactic Racer multiplayer tours for up to 12 players, with crossplay across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

You race, bank credits, bet on yourself, pick parts and roll into a final race on a build that's yours alone.

Below, you'll find how the tours work, which modes sit next to them, and what online play still lacks after launch.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer Multiplayer Summary

  • Star Wars: Galactic Racer multiplayer tours are six-race championships for up to 12 players, take 30 to 40 minutes, and only the final race decides the winner.

  • Credits and parts come from finishes, bets, and contracts, and a landed top-three bet pays a Legendary Reward.

  • Podracing lobbies cap at 8 players. Matchmaking isn't skill-based.

  • Star Wars: Galactic Racer crossplay covers PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with PS Plus required on PS5.

  • Star Wars: Galactic Racer split-screen isn't in the game, and neither are private lobbies or custom modes. Fuse Games aims to raise the party size from 3 to 6 within the first few weeks after launch.

How Do Star Wars: Galactic Racer Multiplayer Tours Work?

A Multiplayer Tour is a six-race championship across several planets, and only the last race decides who wins. The first five rounds are a build chase. Creative director Kieran Crimmins said the tour fits that progression into a half-hour or 40-minute session.

After every race, you earn credits and parts based on where you finished. Parts tune cornering, strength, or your Ramjet, and the rarity you get depends on your finishing position. The final runs on Derven Acos or Tatooine, depending on which tour you picked.

Our reviewer expected the roguelite layer to fall apart with real people in the lobby, and it held. By the halfway mark, the player who stacked shields and the one who stacked weapons were driving two different games.

Since only the final crowns a winner, a dominant first half guarantees nothing. A bad start only leaves you with a weaker car for the last race.

Betting, Contracts and Rivals Drive the Credits

Before each race, you can bet on your own finish. Speeder brackets are top nine, top six, and top three, and calling it right pays out better parts. Land a top-three bet, and you get a Legendary Reward.

Contracts add a second income stream. You take them on before a race, and they ask for small feats such as time spent at the front, perfect landings, airtime, hitting opponents, or overtakes. You can also mark a rival for bonus credits.

Fuse describes its PvP as grudge matches where your reputation travels with you. Our reviewer lost to a player they had shunted into a wall two planets earlier, and it felt personal. Crimmins told PC Gamer that every choice has to make a real difference to whether you win or lose.

So which bet should you take? On an unfamiliar track, top nine is the safe call. Save the top-three wager for a course where your build already has an edge.

Podracers are faster than the other classes, so Fuse Games keeps them in their own 8-player lobbies. Podracing also adds bounties, optional challenges that reward a specific racing style.

Matchmaking is not skill-based. Fuse Games told Traxion before launch that the goal is to get you into a race as quickly as possible, so a first-timer can land next to a veteran.

What Galactic Racer Multiplayer Is Missing

At launch, there's no local split-screen, no private lobbies, and no custom game modes. Our reviewer called the missing couch play the biggest gap for a racer built around trading paint with friends.

Galactic Racer party size was the most common complaint before launch. A group caps at three players. On October 5, the official Star Wars: Galactic Racer X account said an update raising it to six is aimed for the first few weeks after launch.

Private lobbies have no date, and the official Discord only says the team is listening to how people want to play. Replies to the party-size post keep asking for them, plus split-screen.

FAQs About Star Wars: Galactic Races Multiplayer

How many players does Star Wars: Galactic Racer multiplayer support?

Up to 12 players race online in standard races and the Multiplayer Tour. Podracing modes cap at 8, and podracers never share a lobby with speeders.

Does Star Wars: Galactic Racer have crossplay?

Yes. Crossplay connects PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and PS5 players need PS Plus to race online.

Does Star Wars: Galactic Racer have split-screen?

No, and the Steam page lists no local multiplayer either. Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster has said the studio poured everything into the big-screen experience.

Can you play Galactic Racer multiplayer with more than two friends?

Parties cap at three players at launch, so you plus two friends. Fuse Games is working on an update that raises the cap to six.

Final Words

The tours give an arcade racer something it usually lacks, which is memory. A rival you tag in round two is the player you watch all the way to the final.

A tour mode built on grudges plays best with people you know, and three-player parties undercut that. The six-player update is the first test of how fast Fuse Games listens.

Nobody outside the studio knows when private lobbies will arrive. If you're new, start with a few quick races before you commit to a full tour.
