Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 Campaign Length and Route Splits

Boltgun 2 campaign length sits at about 9–10 hours for one run, and that run shows you only part of the game. The campaign splits into branches, so the route you pick decides which Boltgun 2 missions you play and which ones wait for a second playthrough.
We covered the full package in our Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 review, where the branching campaign was the main reason to go back in. Auroch Digital developed the sequel, Big Fan Games published it, and it launched on October 14, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Switch 2 version is coming later.
Below, you'll find how long Boltgun 2 takes, how the mission map splits, what the objectives ask of you, and what a second run adds.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 Campaign Summary
One run lasts about 9–10 hours, roughly the length of the first Boltgun.
The game has 33 missions in total, and a single route covers around 23 of them.
Picking a mission on the campaign screen closes the other path for that run.
Most levels ask you to find 2–3 keys or survive a Purge arena.
Boltgun 2 secrets include hidden buffs, environmental tricks, and one Purity Seal per level.
Once you finish, level select and an accessibility option let you play the missions you skipped.
How Long Is Boltgun 2?

One run of Boltgun 2 takes about 9–10 hours. Our own run came in at roughly ten, which puts it level with the first game. Hunting every collectible pushes you toward the high end.
The game holds 33 missions in total. A full route runs through 10 chapters and about 23 of those missions, which leaves roughly ten levels unseen after the credits.
Campaign at a glance | Number |
|---|---|
One run | 9–10 hours |
Total missions | 33 |
Chapters on one route | 10 |
Missions on one route | About 23 |
Missions skipped per route | About 10 |
Individual missions run shorter than in the first Boltgun, and they build upward. Most levels stack fights across several floors. The hours come from the number of missions more than the size of each map.

How the Branching Mission Map Works
After the tutorial, a campaign screen shows your current planet and a few missions to pick from. Choosing one locks out the other path for that playthrough. Auroch Digital describes the structure on its official Boltgun 2 page as a campaign where each branch features its own levels.
Part of the campaign is shared, and the branches split off at a few points along the story. Our two runs went through different missions for long stretches. Malum and Nyra share the same campaign and branches. Swapping between them changes your weapons and movement, and the map stays the same.
Settings range from a hive city and mangrove swamps to an icy mountain top, a ruined industrial outpost, and the heart of the Ark of Omen. Auroch Digital hasn't published a full list of chapter and planet names yet.
There's no upgrade tree between missions. With no build to plan around, a route choice comes down to which setting you'd rather see next.
Keys, Purges and Optional Missions

Most Boltgun 2 missions ask you to either find 2–3 keys to open the way forward, or survive a Purge, an arena where you clear a large number of enemies before you can move on.
Levels break into three or four sub-levels, and the later ones tend to hold the more interesting content. An optional dotted path points to the next objective, and the in-level map shows several elevation levels.
Certain branches open optional missions. They carry extra lore and more hidden collectibles, and they're worth taking if Warhammer terms like Arkifane mean little to you, since the main story uses them without explanation.
The key-and-arena loop does get repetitive over a full run. A second run on the other branches keeps it fresher than a straight replay.
Secrets, Purity Seals and What a Second Run Adds
Nearly every level hides a few Boltgun 2 secrets. Some are buffs in plain sight with no obvious way up. Others need a trick, such as shooting chains to drop a crate that holds a reward.
Each level also hides one Purity Seal, and finding it takes real effort. Nothing official explains what collecting every seal earns you.
You don't need a fresh campaign to fill the gaps. After finishing the game, you can replay it as the other character or pick individual levels from level select. A toggle in the accessibility menu also opens every level, including the ones your route skipped.
Play the first run blind and follow whichever planet looks best. On the second, switch characters and take the opposite branch at every split, then use level select to clean up missing seals.

Final Words
The branching map changes how you should judge Boltgun 2's length. Ten hours is the cost of one route, and the full game sits closer to two runs plus some cleanup in level select.
Is one run enough? It gets you to the ending, yet about a third of the levels stay behind the branches you passed on. With no upgrade tree to protect, a route pick carries no risk. Treat each split as a choice of scenery.
Nobody has confirmed what a full set of Purity Seals gives you, so hunting them is for completionists for now. If a reward turns up, the second run gets one more reason to exist.
