Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy Guide to Faith, Coin and Sermons

Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy Guide to Faith, Coin and Sermons

The Graveyard Keeper 2 economy looks like a pile of separate meters at first: coins, Faith, Gratitude, research points, zombie limits. They all feed one weekly loop, and the church sits in the middle of it. Once you see how Graveyard Keeper 2 faith and coin move through that loop, the whole game stops feeling random.

In our Graveyard Keeper 2 review, one section carried most of the systems talk, and its title said it plainly: sermons and faith run the economy. This guide picks up that thread and goes deeper, with the exact numbers behind each system since the September 22, 2026 launch on Steam.

Below, you'll find how each currency works, what raises a sermon's payout, where coin comes from, and which Faith purchases pay back first.

Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy Guide Summary

Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy Guide Summary
  • The Graveyard Keeper 2 economy runs on four resources: Faith, coin (bronze, silver, gold), Gratitude, and red, green and blue tech points.

  • Graveyard Keeper 2 sermons happen once a week on Wrath, the red day, and they are the only steady source of Faith.

  • Attendance equals the lower of your Gratitude and your church rating, and every sermon spends the Gratitude it used.

  • Basic Prayer I pays 0.25 Faith per parishioner, plus 0.3 more on success, so a 20-person sermon returns 11 Faith.

  • The Gratitude meter starts with a cap of 10 and reaches 20 after the first battle reopens the port. New residents from Linda raise it again.

  • Town Gratitude scrolls give +5 Gratitude each. Port orders give 15 to 25.

  • Spend Faith on fast-travel Milestones first: 23 Faith activates all seven paid ones.

  • Coin comes from traders, town orders on Pride, warehouse crates and burial certificates. Traders pay 75% of the current price on most goods.

  • Going over the zombie limit cuts every sermon's payout, and the PR machine is the fix.

How Does the Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy Work?

How Does the Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy Work?

The Graveyard Keeper 2 economy works as a weekly cycle: quests and trade earn Gratitude, Gratitude fills the church, and the sermon turns that crowd into Faith and coin. That is the loop our review described, and it holds from the first sermon to the late game. Every other system either feeds the cycle or spends what it produces.

In the Lazy Bear Games sim, Faith pays for fast travel, perk levels, zombie collars and a few recipes and quests. Coin buys materials, seeds and trader goods. Gratitude decides how many people show up to church, and the tech points buy nodes on the research tree.

Tech tree nodes

Tech tree nodes only take tech points, so saving Faith for research gets you nowhere. Faith does touch research sideways: 38 studies at the Study Table ask for 1 to 5 Faith on top of their Science cost. A few Faith crafts, such as the charged hypno-device, also pay out tech points. Budget for those before you spend the rest.

Coin runs on a simple ladder: 100 bronze make 1 silver, and 100 silver make 1 gold. You start with 50 bronze, which buys very little. The early days are about getting the church open, since Faith only starts flowing once it is.

Graveyard Keeper 2 Sermons Are the Weekly Paycheck

Graveyard Keeper 2 sermons run once per week, on Wrath, the day marked in red on the calendar. You walk to the altar, pick a written prayer, and the game pays out Faith and bronze based on who attended. The church opens partway through the early quest chain, after Jack's boat sets sail and a nun turns up at the tavern. Your written prayer is not used up, so one good prayer serves every week until you replace it.

Our review found that the payout follows whichever is lower, your Gratitude or your church rating, and that number is your parishioner count. A church rated for 30 people with 12 Gratitude seats 12. A town with 30 Gratitude and a church rated for 12 also seats 12. The sermon then spends that Gratitude, so the meter has to be rebuilt before the next Wrath.

Each sermon pays in two layers:

  • Base reward, always paid: Faith and bronze per parishioner, set by the prayer. Basic Prayer I gives 0.25 Faith and 5 bronze per head.

  • Success bonus: more Faith per parishioner (0.3 for Basic Prayer I), bronze for every graveyard quality point (5 to 30 bronze per point, depending on the prayer, and 10 for Basic Prayer I), and a timed blessing on prayers that carry one.

Success chance is the parishioner count divided by the prayer's difficulty, capped at 100%, and each prayer has a minimum crowd below which the sermon won't start (4 for Basic Prayer I). A failed sermon keeps the base reward and loses the bonus and the blessing. Twenty parishioners on Basic Prayer I return 11 Faith and a full silver in base bronze, close to half the Milestone bill in a single week. Skip a Wrath and that Faith never comes back, so plan errands around the red day.

Church Rating and Prayers Decide the Ceiling

Church rating comes from building, and the church shows it as its own quality meter, marked with a cross. Interior benches come first, with six slots at 2 wooden planks and 6 bronze nails each, and the Theology branch later adds shrines, candles, incense and the Improve the Church upgrades. A higher rating lets more parishioners in. Graveyard quality counts separately: it leaves attendance alone and feeds the bronze part of the success bonus instead.

Prayers come in 27 grades across Basic, Faith, Money, Combat, Harvest, Repose, Combo, Hypno, Excellence, Storms and Old God types. Stronger grades pay more, and their higher difficulty means they need a bigger crowd to succeed reliably. Put a hard prayer in front of a small congregation and it fails often, so match the grade to your attendance.

Sixteen of those grades grant a timed blessing on success, lasting from 45 minutes up to about 1 hour 40 minutes depending on the grade. The blessings cover combat buffs, faster farming, corpse tier upgrades and mastery gains. The Hypno Prayer's blessing, God of delusions, wipes the excessive zombies penalty the moment it lands.

Homobonus swaps 10 Faith for 5 silver, which helps in a cash crunch. It also eats nearly a full week of Faith from a 20-person Basic Prayer I sermon, so keep that swap for emergencies.

Town Gratitude Sets How Full the Church Gets

Town Gratitude Sets How Full the Church Gets

Gratitude is the attendance meter, and Town Gratitude scrolls top it up at +5 Gratitude each. The meter starts with a maximum of 10. Winning the first battle and reopening the port raises it to 20, and new residents brought in through Linda on Lust push it higher again. Linda takes Green Scrolls for that, and you earn them by restoring the town's houses.

Most sources carry a weekly limit:

Source

What it gives

Notes

Town Gratitude scrolls

+5 Gratitude each

Quest and battle rewards (3 to 8 per battle), also sold by Januarius

Port warehouse orders

15 to 25 each

Open once the port is back

Vegetables sold to traders

About 1 per 15 sold

2 per crop type each week

River fish fillets

About 0.4 each

Roughly 2 a week

Burial certificates

Small, steady amounts

Around 5 a week

Those caps are why variety pays. Selling one crop in bulk stops counting after two points, and a spread of wheat, carrots, beets, cabbages and fish fills the meter far faster. The trader limits reset on Pride.

Partial progress toward the next Gratitude point does not carry into the new week. Finish the last point before the reset. If you're short on the morning of Wrath, a scroll from your stash is the quickest fix, so keep a few in reserve once quests and battles start handing them out.

Where to Spend Graveyard Keeper 2 Faith

Spend Graveyard Keeper 2 faith first on the one-time purchases that keep paying, and fast-travel Milestones are the best of those. Our review called every Faith spend a trade-off, and the currency runs out fast. Travel saves time every single day, which makes it the cheapest return in the game.

There are 11 Milestones, and four of them are free. The seven paid ones cost 23 Faith in total:

Milestone

Faith cost

Crossroads

1

Graveyard

1

Village

2

Vineyard

2

Port Area

3

Quarry

6

Swamp

8

Next come Inspirations. Many have a free first level, and each paid level costs up to 250 Faith once its goal is met. No single playthrough pays for all of them, so pick the branch that answers your current bottleneck and leave the rest.

Zombie collars cost 3 (bronze), 5 (golden) and 10 (steel), writing a Story takes 3, carved stone and carved marble take 1 each, and every charged hypno-device takes 1. The Goddess in the Swamp quest asks for 100 Faith in one go. Players on Steam say the small fees add up quickly, and one wrote about burning through all of their Faith within minutes of getting it.

How to Make Money in Graveyard Keeper 2

How to Make Money in Graveyard Keeper 2

To make money in Graveyard Keeper 2, sell to traders, fill town orders, stock the warehouse and cash in burial certificates. Sermons add bronze on top, and the graveyard quality bonus grows as the cemetery improves. No single route carries the game, and the trader rules punish anyone who dumps one item.

Trader prices move with stock. The more of an item a merchant already holds, the lower the price, and a merchant pays 75% of the current price, capped at the item's base price. Burial certificates, fish, tools and armor are the exceptions: they always sell for the full base price.

Every merchant also has a limited purse that tops up each night. At tier I, the Trademaster starts with 50 silver and gains 5 silver a day. Januarius starts with 10 silver and gains 75 bronze a day, and most others begin with 1 silver and gain 20 bronze a day. Sell a big stack to a small shop and its purse runs dry, so spread sales across traders and days.

Town orders and the warehouse run on Pride. Orders can only be accepted that day, urgent ones must be delivered in full by the next Pride, and items left in warehouse crates sell at base price when Pride begins. Burial certificates go to Januarius at the tavern for 1 to 5 silver each depending on corpse quality, which ties coin straight back to careful burials.

Zombies Can Drain the Collection Plate

Zombie workers make automation possible, and they also hit the church. The quality of your Resurrection Lab sets the zombie limit, and going past it triggers the excessive zombies penalty, which cuts what every prayer grade pays. The game checks your count whenever a PR machine program starts or ends.

The PR machine raises the limit for a set number of weeks. Programs start on Gluttony, and the cheaper ones run on charged hypno-devices, each built from a hypno-device and 1 Faith:

PR program

Cost

Duration

+10 zombie limit

2 charged hypno-devices

1 week

+20 zombie limit

10 newspapers, 3 charged hypno-devices

2 weeks

+30 zombie limit

20 silver or gold newspapers, 5 charged hypno-devices

3 weeks

+50 zombie limit

100 silver or gold newspapers

4 weeks

+80 zombie limit

100 gold newspapers

5 weeks

This part of the Graveyard Keeper 2 economy draws steady complaints on Steam. One thread argues that automated crafting needs around 16 zombies, a workforce that runs straight into the penalty, and players there say a lapsed PR program leaves sermon Faith badly reduced. Plan the zombie count and the PR schedule together, or the church quietly pays less every week.

Each day of the week carries its own economic job:

Day

What it does for the economy

Gluttony

PR machine programs start

Sloth

Most battles take place

Lust

Linda brings in new residents, raising the Gratitude cap

Envy (green)

Zombie resurrection

Pride

Town orders, warehouse payout, weekly trader reset

Wrath (red)

Sermon day, graveyard quality pays out in bronze

FAQs About Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy

FAQs About Graveyard Keeper 2 Economy

How do you get faith in Graveyard Keeper 2?

Faith comes from the weekly sermon at the church on Wrath, the red day. You need the church opened through the early quest chain and a written prayer. Grow both your Gratitude and your church rating, since attendance follows the lower of the two.

Why are my Graveyard Keeper 2 sermons paying so little?

Usually one of three things holds them back: too little Gratitude, a low church rating, or too many zombies. Check which of the first two is lower and work on that one. If your zombie count is over the Resurrection Lab limit, start a PR machine program on Gluttony.

Can you hold more than one sermon a week?

No. The church runs one sermon each Wrath, and a missed Wrath is lost income. The first sermon during the intro quest is the only exception.

Can you spend faith on the tech tree in Graveyard Keeper 2?

No. Tech tree nodes cost red, green and blue tech points. Faith only reaches research indirectly, through Study Table studies that take 1 to 5 Faith on top of Science and a few Faith crafts that award tech points.

What is the fastest way to raise Town Gratitude?

Use Town Gratitude scrolls for quick 5-point jumps, and fill port warehouse orders once the port reopens, since each one pays 15 to 25. Top up the rest with vegetables, fish and burial certificates until each weekly limit is hit.

Final Words

The Graveyard Keeper 2 economy rewards planning a week ahead more than grinding any single resource. Sermon attendance takes the lower of two numbers, so the smartest move each week is finding the weaker one and fixing that. The Gratitude cap grows with story progress and new residents, church rating grows with benches and Theology upgrades, and neither moves on its own.

Faith is the currency that runs short, and it stays short for most of the game. Buying Milestones early turns a scarce resource into hours of saved walking, and every Inspiration after that should answer a problem you already have. Spending on a branch you might use later is how players end up broke on Wrath.

Players want big undead workforces, and the PR system pushes back against exactly that, with the church footing the bill. Nobody outside the studio knows yet whether PR upkeep or the zombie penalty will change in a patch, so build your week around the rules as they stand.

Until then, keep a calendar in your head: PR on Gluttony, battles on Sloth, orders on Pride, sermon on Wrath. Hit those four days every week and the rest of the loop takes care of itself.
