Valor Mortis Best Weapons, All 9 Ranked With Locations

The Valor Mortis best weapons list is short by design: three blades, three firearms, and three Transmutations, with no armor or accessory slots to hide behind. In Valor Mortis, your build is the weapons you carry plus your Amber perks, so the Valor Mortis weapon locations and what each tool does are most of the buildcraft.
Our Valor Mortis review gave the arsenal its own section, since every weapon there has a job. Below, you'll find where all nine drop, a full ranking, how the left hand works, and the upgrade math for weapons and Valor Mortis Transmutations.
Valor Mortis Best Weapons Summary
Saber is the best all-round weapon. You start with it, and it blocks and parries.
Pistol ranks second. It arrives in Chapter 2 and breaks Nephtoglobin weak points.
The Valor Mortis Blunderbuss sits in Chapter 3, Fallen Village. Its two-round clip clears packed corridors.
Claymore and Musket are two-handed and cost you the off-hand slot or your blade.
Weapons cap at level 10, Transmutations at level 5. Tier 4 materials can't be bought, so pick favorites early.
Where to Find Every Valor Mortis Weapon
Every weapon comes from the story path, so none is missable. A few sit a short detour off the main route, with the nearest Lantern as the easiest landmark.
Weapon | Type | Chapter | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
Saber | Blade | 1 | Starting weapon, The Battlefield |
Fire | Transmutation | 1 | Corpse up the slope past the lake enemy, near the Onslaught Arch Lantern |
Pistol | Firearm | 2 | Carriage past the broken bridge, Valley of Ashes |
Rapier | Blade | 3 | Abandoned Church, after the Lothaire rematch |
Blunderbuss | Firearm | 3 | Behind the large-sword Volunteer, near the Marketplace Lantern in Fallen Village |
Stasis | Transmutation | 4 | Deep in the mine past the Old Mine Lantern, Caverns |
Musket | Firearm | 5 | Wagon opened with the Wagon Key a Volunteer drops, near the Poisoned Camp Lantern. |
Claymore | Blade | 6 | Church in Cursed Hollow, near the end of the chapter |
Shield | Transmutation | 8 | Upper floor of the University, via the elevator by the Main Hall Lantern |
Several double as keys. The Pistol destroys glowing Nephtoglobin growths that seal shortcuts, Fire burns dry yellow growths, and Stasis stops moving gears.
Players most often walk past the Claymore. It waits in the Cursed Hollow church near Anna's boss arena, so open the shortcut back there before pushing on.
Valor Mortis Best Weapons Ranked

Saber. Blocks, parries, and triples its damage (20 to 60) across ten levels.
Pistol. Five shots and the only early answer to weak points.
Fire. Burning enemies take damage over time and open up for finishers.
Claymore. The hardest-hitting blade, with no parry.
Blunderbuss. Huge point-blank damage, limited by special ammo.
Stasis. Freezes a target for a heavy follow-up.
Rapier. Big posture gain on a perfect parry, weak blocking.
Musket. Heavy shots at range, one round per reload.
Shield. Arrives last and plays defense, mostly for poison ground.
Parry access, posture damage, and arrival time decide the order. Our review leaned on the Saber all run and kept the Claymore for big single targets.
Ammo for the Pistol is scarce, but one shot to a glowing weak point staggers most enemies. No blade covers that gap as cleanly.
How Transmutations and Two-Handed Weapons Work
Valor Mortis Transmutations are cast from William's left hand, as the official Gameplay Overview trailer shows. Each cast spends Nephtoglobin, so timing matters more than volume.
Two-blade dual wielding is not confirmed anywhere officially. The real pairing is a one-handed blade plus either a firearm or a Transmutation in the off-hand.
Two-handers break that pairing. The Claymore can't share a loadout with a firearm or a Transmutation, and the Musket replaces your melee weapon when equipped. Both suit planned fights more than ambushes.
Valor Mortis Upgrade Costs
Blades and firearms level up at James's Iron Bench in the Abandoned Church. Transmutations go to Louis's Laboratoire, which opens after you bring Louis back in Chapter 3.
Tier | Blades (to level 10) | Firearms (to level 10) | Transmutations (to level 5) |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | 6 Crude Blade Material | 6 Standard Firearm Parts | 2 Crude Transmutation Material |
2 | 6 Pure | 6 Superior | 2 Pure |
3 | 3 Distilled | 3 Exquisite | 2 Distilled |
4 | 1 Quintessential | 1 Masterwork | 1 Quintessential |
Tiers 1 to 3 can be bought with Catalysts. At 1,500, 3,000, and 6,000 per piece, one blade or firearm costs 45,000 Catalysts to buy outright, and a Transmutation costs around 28,000.
Tier 4 is never sold, and the world holds only a handful of copies, too few to max every weapon in one playthrough. Weapon perks open at levels 2, 5, 8, and 10, so a level 9 Saber is still a strong Saber.
FAQs About Valor Mortis Best Weapons
Final Words
Valor Mortis gives you nine tools and then limits how many you can finish. That scarcity is the real build choice.
Spend your first Tier 4 blade material on the Saber unless the Claymore already clicks. Experiment with the left hand instead, since Pistol, Fire, and Stasis each solve different problems.
Watch future patches. The October 16 update fixed progression blockers, and any change to ammo or Nephtoglobin costs could reshuffle the middle of this list.
