Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught: Teams and Rewards

Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught: Teams and Rewards

Stygian Onslaught in Genshin Impact puts three boss encounters between you and a completed challenge. The lower difficulties let you reuse your best characters, then Menacing introduces a roster problem: every battle needs a separate lineup. Strong supports suddenly have three teams asking for their help.

If you're buying a Genshin Impact account for endgame content, check the support characters alongside the headline damage dealers. Several equipped teams give you more options for Stygian's greater difficulties than a roster built around one heavily invested carry.

This guide explains the six difficulties, team planning, rewards, and the limited Artifact-farming window. The team examples provide starting points for different combat requirements; the active boss mechanics decide where each lineup belongs.

Stygian Onslaught Summary

  • Access requires Adventure Rank 20 and Archon Quest Prologue: Act III, “Song of the Dragon and Freedom.”

  • Each challenge contains three timed battles, with six difficulties from Normal to Dire.

  • The latest completed rotation ran from September 30 to November 3, 2026. The next period is scheduled to begin November 11.

  • Normal, Advancing, and Hard award 150 Primogems each. A Hard clear covers all three reward conditions for 450 Primogems total.

  • From Menacing onward, characters cannot be reused across the three battles. Three full solo parties use 12 different characters.

  • Fearless and Dire support same-world co-op, but their own difficulty rewards require single-player clears.

  • Artifact claims require Adventure Rank 45, Hard or higher, and the first ten-day Disturbance Outbreak window.

  • During the Outbreak, every 120 Dire Prestige grants an extra five-star Artifact. The 1,200-Prestige milestone grants one Dust of Enlightenment.

What Is Stygian Onslaught?

Stygian Onslaught is a permanent combat mode that runs in recurring challenge periods. You select a difficulty and defeat opponents across three separate battles. Greater difficulties increase enemy strength and add stricter party restrictions.

The reward goals give you several stopping points. Hard covers the Primogem track. Menacing and a single-player Fearless clear add Dust of Enlightenment. Dire offers temporary weapon appearances, including a separate reward for a faster combined clear.

The Disturbance Outbreak adds another reason to participate. During that shorter window, eligible players can spend Resin on Artifact rewards and accumulate Dire Prestige. Its deadline arrives before the full challenge period ends.

Latest Stygian Onslaught Rotation

latest stygian onslaught rotation

As of November 5, 2026, the latest completed Stygian Onslaught rotation ran from September 30 to November 3, 2026. Its Disturbance Outbreak ended earlier, on October 10. This rotation has ended and is no longer available for reward claims.

Boss

Main Mechanic to Address

Useful Counters

Domovoy Sculptor

Creates Prime Ice sculptures that can become attacking Jack Frosts

Apply Radiance: Stellar Glimmer during sculpture creation to interrupt the process

Secret Source Automaton: Overseer Device

Builds Flow Momentum and gains resistance during its combat modes

Repeated Cryo damage reduces its momentum and helps create a damage window

Guardian Blade of Drifting Snow

Protects itself with an Ice Coffin and a Cryo Ward

Prepare suitable shield-breaking application; Pyro or the encounter's Stellar Glimmer interaction can help

These bosses show why each Stygian lineup needs a response to the encounter's mechanics. Assigning a Cryo party to the Overseer Device, for example, addresses its Flow Momentum mechanic directly. That same party may need a different assignment when the next rotation changes the enemies.

Next Stygian Onslaught Period

The Version 7.2 event calendar lists the next period for November 11 to December 15, 2026. Use the in-game event notice for exact opening times, the final boss lineup, and the Disturbance Outbreak deadline on your server.

The new patch arrived on November 4, so patch day and the next Stygian opening are separate dates. The team examples below are general preparation options. They aren't a confirmed boss-by-boss solution for the upcoming period.

How to Access Stygian Onslaught

Reach Adventure Rank 20 and complete Archon Quest Prologue: Act III, “Song of the Dragon and Freedom.” Follow the event's in-game navigation and introductory quest prompts to reach the challenge.

HoYoverse recommends completing “Perilous Trail” first for the best experience. That recommendation is separate from the stated entry requirements.

Artifact farming has a higher Adventure Rank gate. You need AR45 to claim the selected Domain of Blessing rewards during the Disturbance Outbreak, even if you could enter the combat challenge earlier.

Stygian Onslaught Difficulties Explained

Normal, Advancing, and Hard are available once you have access to the mode. From Hard onward, clear the current difficulty to open the next one. Dire requires a single-player Fearless clear.

Difficulty

Character Reuse Between Battles

Access

Main Clear Reward

Normal

Allowed

Available at entry

150 Primogems, Mora, Hero's Wit

Advancing

Allowed

Available at entry

Another 150 Primogems, Mora, Hero's Wit

Hard

Allowed

Available at entry

Another 150 Primogems, Mora, Hero's Wit

Menacing

Restricted

Clear Hard

Dust of Enlightenment, Mora, Hero's Wit

Fearless

Restricted

Clear Menacing

Dust of Enlightenment, Mora, Hero's Wit; single-player clear required

Dire

Restricted

Clear Fearless in single-player

Temporary Radiant Phantasm weapon appearance; separate timed objective

Higher clears also satisfy the lower difficulty reward conditions. If your roster can handle Hard, you can start there and claim the Normal, Advancing, and Hard rewards together.

Menacing is the point where you need to think about all three lineups at once. A full four-character party for every battle uses 12 distinct characters in solo play. That's a planning target for three complete parties, rather than a universal requirement to fill every slot.

How to Build Stygian Onslaught Teams

how to build stygian onslaught teams

Read all three boss descriptions before assigning your strongest supports. Look for elemental shields, resistance changes, reaction requirements, vulnerable phases, and attacks that interrupt your damage dealer. Give the most demanding mechanic its necessary characters first.

Then divide the remaining roster into workable parties. A team needs enough damage to finish the encounter and a practical way to survive its attacks. A strong theoretical combination can still struggle if you spend half the fight dodging or waiting for Energy.

Example Teams Without Shared Characters

These three lineups use 12 different characters. They demonstrate how to divide a roster into separate teams, with different elemental coverage and support needs. Their suitability depends on the active enemies, difficulty, equipment, and your ability to play their rotations.

Team Type

Example Lineup

What It Offers

Check Before Assigning It

Cryo damage

Skirk, Escoffier, Furina, Shenhe

Cryo damage, healing, Hydro application, and several damage buffs

Cryo resistance, enemy mechanics, and access to a usable attack window

Vaporize

Arlecchino, Yelan, Bennett, Zhongli

Pyro damage with Hydro support, ATK buffs, and shielding

Pyro resistance, Hydro application, and shield uptime

Hyperbloom

Alhaitham, Nahida, Xingqiu, Kuki Shinobu

Dendro damage, Bloom production, Hyperbloom, and healing

Dendro resistance, reaction access, and the Electro trigger's build

Skirk, Escoffier, Furina, and Shenhe

Skirk gives this party its main attack sequence. Escoffier supplies healing and resistance reduction, Furina adds damage and party buffs, and Shenhe supports Cryo damage.

Keeping all four slots Hydro or Cryo fits the team's character mechanics. Plan the support setup around Skirk's damage window, then use that window when the boss is vulnerable. A boss resisting Freeze can still take Cryo damage; check its resistance and specific mechanics before deciding whether this party fits.

Arlecchino, Yelan, Bennett, and Zhongli

This party keeps Furina and Escoffier available for the Cryo lineup. Yelan supplies Hydro attacks for Vaporize, Bennett provides his ATK buff, and Zhongli helps Arlecchino continue attacking through pressure.

Arlecchino cannot receive ordinary teammate healing during combat. Bennett's value here includes his ATK buff; don't rely on his healing to restore her HP. Keep the shield active and account for Arlecchino's own Burst healing when planning a risky damage window.

Alhaitham, Nahida, Xingqiu, and Kuki Shinobu

Alhaitham and Nahida provide Dendro application and damage. Xingqiu adds Hydro for Bloom, and Kuki triggers Hyperbloom with her Skill alongside healing.

Check Kuki's level and Elemental Mastery investment before assigning this party to a strict timer. Her reaction damage depends heavily on that preparation. The party also needs enough Energy Recharge for its support abilities to return when the rotation needs them.

Where Mitya and Valeriy Fit

Mitya and Valeriy give you another Electro damage-and-support pairing to consider. A Stellar-Conduct plan also needs suitable Cryo application, so reserve the required Cryo teammate before committing those characters to a battle.

Build this as an alternative to one of your existing parties. Check which characters it would take from the other two teams, then compare the complete three-battle arrangement. A faster first fight can cost you progress if it leaves another lineup without its required support.

Practical Tips for Higher Difficulties

Treat the first attempt as a check of the encounter. Watch when the boss becomes vulnerable, when it moves away, and which mechanics stop your damage. Adjust the rotation around those moments before spending resources on another build.

Allocate Supports Before Damage Dealers

Choose where characters such as Furina, Bennett, or your preferred defensive support are needed most. From Menacing onward, they can't serve multiple parties in the same challenge. Assigning those contested slots first makes the rest of the roster easier to divide.

Finish equipment allocation before recording your clears. Avoid moving a shared weapon or Artifact set between characters assigned to different battles; configuration changes can affect recorded results.

Fix Missed Rotations

A support who cannot recharge their Burst leaves the next damage window incomplete. Check Energy Recharge, particle collection, and ability timing if the second rotation feels much weaker than the first.

A defensive slot can also help a timed clear if it lets your attacker complete more attacks. Test the encounter with a stable rotation before removing protection to chase more damage.

Check Exalted Ones

The changing Exalted Ones selection grants eligible characters an Eminent Boon on difficulties below Dire. You need access to the character yourself; this system doesn't lend you a free copy.

Dire disables that boon. A team that narrowly clears Fearless with the seasonal benefit may need further preparation for the final difficulty.

Disturbance Outbreak and Dire Prestige

The Disturbance Outbreak lasts for the first ten days of a challenge period. During that window, players at AR45 or above can complete Hard or higher and spend Resin for rewards from a selected Domain of Blessing.

Choose a Domain containing Artifact sets you actually need. The claim draws from that Domain's rewards; it doesn't let you select an individual Artifact, main stat, or substats.

Resin claims also add Dire Prestige. Every 120 Prestige grants an extra random five-star Artifact from the selected Domain. Reaching 1,200 Prestige grants one Dust of Enlightenment for the period.

Current Condensed Resin represents 60 Original Resin and provides a triple reward claim. Older guides using a 40-Resin Condensed Resin value are outdated. Check the reward settings and available claim options before starting a farming session.

Once the Outbreak ends, the special Resin claims close even if the combat challenge remains available. You can still farm ordinary Artifact Domains, but those runs don't add Prestige to the closed Outbreak.

Stygian Onslaught Rewards

stygian onslaught rewards

The clear rewards and Prestige rewards have separate conditions. Clearing Hard earns the full Primogem track without requiring a Dire clear or a Resin spend.

Goal

Reward

Hard or higher clear

Complete Menacing

1 Dust of Enlightenment, 100,000 Mora, 5 Hero's Wit

Menacing or higher clear

Complete Fearless

1 Dust of Enlightenment, 100,000 Mora, 5 Hero's Wit

Single-player Fearless or higher clear

Complete Dire

Earn 120 Dire Prestige

Extra random five-star Artifact

Repeatable milestone during the Outbreak

Earn 1,200 Dire Prestige

1 Dust of Enlightenment

Once per period through Outbreak Resin claims

Normal through Hard provide 450 Primogems total. Menacing and single-player Fearless provide two Dust of Enlightenment, with a third available from the separate Prestige milestone.

Radiant Phantasm rewards are temporary weapon appearances. They don't add a permanent weapon to your inventory, and their duration follows the reward's stated expiry. The 180-second objective measures the combined three-battle result, rather than giving each boss a separate 180-second target.

Can You Play Stygian Onslaught in Co-Op?

All six difficulties support co-op with up to four players. Normal, Advancing, and Hard offer matchmaking or same-world co-op. Menacing, Fearless, and Dire require players to gather in the same world.

Fearless and Dire retain their single-player reward conditions. Completing those tiers with friends doesn't claim their solo-only difficulty rewards.

Co-op can help you learn attacks and handle the lower reward tiers together. If you're aiming for the top rewards, prepare a solo arrangement that meets the relevant conditions.

Stygian's rotating boss challenges can sit alongside the monthly rewards from Imaginarium Theater. Keep their deadlines separate: Theater resets on the first of the month, and Stygian follows its announced challenge periods.

FAQs About Stygian Onslaught

How Many Primogems Does Stygian Onslaught Give?

The Normal, Advancing, and Hard reward tiers provide 150 Primogems each, for 450 total per period. A Hard clear also satisfies the two lower reward conditions.

Do You Need 12 Characters for Stygian Onslaught?

Three full solo parties use 12 different characters from Menacing onward, where character reuse is restricted. Lower difficulties allow reuse, and 12 characters is a full-party planning target rather than a universal entry requirement.

Is Dire Required for All Primogems?

No. Hard is enough for the full 450-Primogem clear reward track. Higher difficulties offer materials and temporary cosmetic rewards.

Can You Get Fearless and Dire Rewards in Co-Op?

Their own difficulty rewards require single-player clears. Same-world co-op is available for playing those difficulties, but it doesn't satisfy those solo reward conditions.

How Do You Earn Dire Prestige?

During the Disturbance Outbreak, reach AR45, complete Hard or higher, and spend Resin on the selected Domain of Blessing rewards. Those claims add Prestige toward extra Artifacts and the Dust of Enlightenment milestone.

Which Bosses Were in the Latest Stygian Onslaught Rotation?

The September 30–November 3, 2026 rotation featured Domovoy Sculptor, Secret Source Automaton: Overseer Device, and Guardian Blade of Drifting Snow. That period has ended.

When Is the Next Stygian Onslaught Period?

The Version 7.2 calendar lists November 11 to December 15, 2026. Check the in-game event notice for the exact hours and the separate Outbreak deadline.

Final Words

Start with the reward goal your roster can reach. Hard covers the Primogems, Menacing and solo Fearless add material rewards, and Dire gives experienced accounts another timed combat challenge. Choosing a stopping point helps you decide how much preparation the next difficulty deserves.

For the higher tiers, plan all three parties together. Assign the elemental counters first, divide the contested supports, and check that each team has its equipment and a repeatable rotation. If one battle stalls, identify the specific problem before rebuilding the whole lineup. A missing reaction, an empty Burst, or a mistimed damage window each calls for a different fix.

Keep the Outbreak deadline beside the main challenge deadline. Players farming Artifacts have a shorter window to earn Prestige and its extra Dust of Enlightenment. For the November period, prepare your roster ahead of the scheduled opening, read the active boss mechanics when it arrives, and adapt the team examples to the encounters in front of you.
