What is Mantling in Fortnite?

Mantling is a movement mechanic in Fortnite that lets your character climb up walls, ledges, and obstacles by grabbing the top edge and pulling themselves up, removing the need to build ramps or stairs to reach higher ground. It was introduced in Chapter 3, Season 2, and has been part of the game ever since, making it especially useful in Zero Build mode, where building is not an option. It works by facing a ledge or wall within jump range and jumping toward it. Your character will automatically grab the edge and vault onto it.

How to Mantle in Fortnite

Mantling is straightforward once you know what to do. Make sure the ledge or wall you are aiming for is within jump range, typically about one story high. If it is too far above you, your character will not be able to grab it.

To mantle, run toward the ledge and hold the jump button as you approach it. Your character will grab the edge and pull themselves up automatically. Sprinting before the jump makes the mantle smoother and gives you a bit more range. You can also adjust how mantling is triggered in the settings under the Movement section, where you can switch between "Hold Jump" and "Hold Forward" depending on your preference.

Mantle Challenges in Fortnite

Epic Games occasionally releases quests that require you to use the mantling mechanic. These challenges can range from mantling in specific named locations on the map to more demanding tasks like mantling five times in five seconds or dealing damage to an opponent within ten seconds of mantling.

For the "mantle five times in five seconds" challenge, the easiest approach is to build four walls in a cross or box shape and quickly mantle around them in succession without touching the ground in between. For damage-based mantle challenges, landing at a busy POI and mantling onto ledges near enemies gives you the best chance of completing it quickly.
