What Is Power Ranking (PR) in Fortnite and How Does It Work?

power ranking definition

PR in Fortnite stands for Power Ranking, Epic's official skill rating for competitive players. It's an Elo-style number built from your 20 best Battle Royale and Reload tournament results, weighted by how big each event was, plus a small bonus for your Ranked tier. Epic launched it on June 5, 2026, and the global leaderboard updates most weeks on Thursday. Older PR numbers from Fortnite Tracker's points system aren't on the same scale.

How Is PR Calculated in Fortnite?

Each tournament gives you a performance rating based on who you beat, not a fixed points payout. Epic's How Power Rankings Actually Work page sets out the steps:

  1. Raw rating: your placement is compared against every opponent's rating. In Epic's example of a Division 3 cup with 1,000 duos rated around 20,000, 100th place rates about 23,000 and 900th about 17,000.

  2. Event weight: the raw rating is multiplied by the event's weight.

  3. Decay: a result keeps full value for 180 days, then loses value steadily until it reaches zero at 720 days.

  4. Best 20: only your top 20 weighted results count.

  5. Ranked bonus: your tier in BR Ranked and Reload Ranked adds 0 to 1,000 PR per mode.

The event weight is why a mediocre finish in a big final can beat a great finish in a casual cup.

In Epic's own example, 39th of 50 in a Division 1 Final (20,000 raw × 1.2 = 24,000) outrates 5th of 10,000 in a Ranked Cup (20,000 × 0.8 = 16,000). On the calendar, a Cash Cup played on January 1, 2026 holds full value until June 30, 2026 and stops counting on December 22, 2027.

How Do You Get PR in Fortnite?

You get PR by placing in eligible Battle Royale or Reload tournaments, and Ranked only adds a small bonus on top. Almost every BR and Reload tournament counts, Ranked Cups and Shop Cups included. Test and voided tournaments don't, though Performance Evaluations do.

To raise Power Ranking faster you can:

  • Play the heaviest event you can place in. The same raw rating is worth 20% more in an FNCS Heat than in a Cash Cup.

  • Play strong lobbies. Tenth in a stacked EU final rates higher than tenth in a smaller region's final.

  • Stay active. Results older than 180 days shrink every week, and only a better, newer result replaces them.

  • Push Ranked. Champion 1 adds 600 PR and Unreal adds 1,000, per mode.

  • Don't skip cups out of fear. You can't lose PR by playing. A bad result just doesn't make your top 20.

The Role of PR in Fortnite Competitions

In Fortnite’s competitive ecosystem, PR plays a crucial role in determining a player’s eligibility and potential success in high-level tournaments. A higher PR score gives players an advantage, as it can directly influence their chances of qualifying for prominent competitions.

Moreover, having a high PR is often a key factor in securing sponsorships and recognition from esports organizations. As PR reflects consistent performance in various events, players who maintain a strong PR are more likely to be considered for professional teams and larger-scale tournaments.

How to Check and Track Power Ranking in Fortnite?

To monitor their PR, Fortnite players can use dedicated platforms like Fortnite Tracker, which provides detailed statistics and updates based on their tournament performances.

  1. Open fortnite.com, go to Competitive and select Power Rankings.

  2. Type your Epic display name into the "Search for a player" box.

  3. Read your PR position and PR rating, and pin up to 8 players to compare.

New results appear in the weekly update, so a Saturday cup usually shows up the following Thursday. If your PR dropped while you weren't playing, that's decay or a Ranked reset: old results lose value each week, and a new season resets the tier behind your bonus.

What Is a Good PR in Fortnite?

Epic doesn't publish PR tiers, so "good" depends on the cutoff you're chasing. At the time of writing (November 6, 2026), the top 25 players sit between 36,590 and 39,132 PR, and Epic's worked example assumes a Division 3 field rated around 20,000.

The cutoffs that matter are leaderboard positions. The top 200,000 players by PR are eligible for the FNCS Global Championship Last Chance, and the top 2,000 skip Round 1 and start in Round 2. Epic says Solo FNCS will use PR for entry as well.
