Is MW4 on Game Pass? Availability Explained

MW4 isn't on Game Pass at launch. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 released on October 23, 2026, with a separate purchase required to play. Activision has announced Holiday 2027 as its Game Pass availability window.

For anyone buying now, MW4 Standard vs Vault Edition comes down to the bonus content you want. Both full editions include the base game; a subscription doesn't provide either edition at launch.

Xbox players also need to account for online multiplayer access. That can involve a Game Pass subscription even after buying MW4, so here's how the requirements fit together.

MW4 Game Pass Summary

• A separate game purchase is required at launch, including for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.

• Holiday 2027 is the announced subscription window. An exact date hasn't been announced.

• Xbox console online modes need a qualifying subscription alongside access to the game.

• PC players can buy MW4 separately without subscribing to PC Game Pass.

• Xbox Play Anywhere supports eligible digital purchases across Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC through the Xbox/Microsoft Store version.

Is MW4 Included With Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass?

Neither subscription includes MW4 at launch. Upgrading your plan won't give you launch access to the full game through the catalogue.

Xbox's Game Pass page advertises day-one games with selected plans, and its terms exclude Call of Duty titles from that promise. Check the individual game's availability before subscribing for a particular release.

The final column concerns Xbox console multiplayer. PC Game Pass is a PC subscription, so that column doesn't describe a requirement for playing online on a computer.

When Is MW4 Coming to Game Pass?

Activision's announced window is Holiday 2027. The launch notice doesn't provide a specific day, month, or time for its arrival.

Treat that as a window when deciding whether to wait. There's no confirmed calendar date to plan a subscription renewal around yet.

Future availability will also need a fresh check for the eligible plans and platforms. A current membership alone doesn't tell you which version or benefits a future addition will include.

Do You Need Game Pass to Play MW4 on Xbox?

For online modes on Xbox Series X|S, you need access to MW4 and a subscription that includes online console multiplayer. Xbox lists that benefit with Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.

For example, buying the Standard Edition gives you the game. If you want to join online Multiplayer or deploy into DMZ on Xbox, check that your account also has the required multiplayer subscription.

Already subscribed to a plan with online console multiplayer? You don't need a second subscription for that same benefit. You still need to buy MW4 to play at launch.

Before paying for a higher tier, check what your existing membership covers. Essential includes online console multiplayer; Premium and Ultimate add other benefits that may or may not matter to your library.

Can You Play MW4 on PC Without Game Pass?

Yes. PC players can purchase MW4 through Steam, Battle.net, or Xbox on PC. PC Game Pass isn't required for a separately purchased copy.

Choose the store you want to use, then check the game's requirements and the account connected to your purchase. A game appearing inside an Xbox app doesn't automatically make it part of a subscription catalogue.

If you're comparing MW4 accounts, check the listed platform and included game access before choosing one. A listing's progression details alone won't tell you which PC store or console version you can play.

Does Xbox Play Anywhere Include MW4?

MW4 supports Xbox Play Anywhere through eligible digital purchases. With the Xbox/Microsoft Store version, the same Microsoft account can access the game on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC without buying those two versions separately.

Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge on the product you're purchasing. The programme applies to eligible digital versions, so check the listing before assuming a purchase covers both devices.

Play Anywhere describes where you can use an eligible purchase. Game Pass describes access through a subscription plan. MW4 can support Play Anywhere and still require a separate purchase at launch.

If you switch from PC to Xbox console for online matches, the console multiplayer subscription requirement still applies.

What About Other Call of Duty Games on Game Pass?

Activision's launch notice lists Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, and Modern Warfare III among the Call of Duty games available to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.

Those are separate games with their own catalogue availability. Access to an older title doesn't include the newest release, even if you launch both through Call of Duty's shared app.

Check the game title and edition attached to the store entry. A familiar launcher, an installed content pack, or an older Call of Duty in your library can make the purchase screen harder to read than it needs to be.

What Should You Check Before Buying MW4?

Keep the purchase check short:

1. Platform: Choose the console or PC store you'll actually use.

2. Product: Confirm that the listing includes the full game. A Vault Edition upgrade requires an eligible Digital Standard Edition purchase.

3. Online access: On Xbox console, check your multiplayer subscription.

4. Edition extras: Compare the included content with what you expect to use.

Once your game access is sorted, optional store purchases are a separate part of the budget. COD Points cover eligible in-game content, such as bundles, and don't purchase the full MW4 game.

FAQs About MW4 on Game Pass

Final Words

If you want to play MW4 now, budget for the game purchase and check any online console subscription you need. If you're waiting for subscription access, watch for an exact date and eligible-plan details closer to its arrival.

Before checkout, confirm the platform, full-game access, and edition. Those three details will tell you far more than the presence of an Xbox or Game Pass logo beside a listing.
