Plans in Fallout 76 are blueprints that permanently unlock a crafting recipe for a weapon, armour piece, mod or CAMP object. Learning one adds that recipe to the relevant workbench for good, and any copy the character already knows shows up with a "(Known)" tag in loot and vendor inventories. Plans are found in containers across Appalachia, bought from vendors, or given out as quest and event rewards, and the rarer ones are the reason a plan trade market exists at all.

Fallout 76 plans are consumed when learned, so the copy leaves the inventory as the recipe unlocks. That leaves unlearned copies as the only ones with trade value, since a known recipe cannot be passed to another player.
