Viktor in LoL is a mid lane mage who upgrades his own abilities during every match, and in Arcane he is the Zaunite scientist who turns himself into a machine to escape a deadly illness. Riot updated Viktor in 2024 to match how he looks in Arcane, and his full in-game name changed from "Viktor, the Machine Herald" to "Viktor, the Herald of the Arcane".

Viktor's illness gets worse through Season 1, and he turns to the Hexcore, an unstable experiment, hoping it can heal him. His assistant Sky dies in a Hexcore accident, and Viktor asks Jayce to destroy it.
Season 2 pushes his transformation much further. Viktor is badly wounded in Jinx's attack on the Piltover council, and Jayce breaks his promise and uses the Hexcore to save him. Viktor then starts healing Zaunites hurt by shimmer, a dangerous drug, and gathers a group of followers who see him as a savior. As his power grows, he becomes the Machine Herald players know from the game.
In the finale, after seeing where his Glorious Evolution leads, Viktor sacrifices himself to stop that future, and Jayce stays by his side for one last time.

Glorious Evolution (passive): Viktor collects Hex Fragments by killing minions, jungle monsters and enemy champions, and champion kills and assists give the most. Every 100 fragments upgrades one of his basic abilities for the rest of the match, and his ultimate can only be upgraded after the other three.
Siphon Power (Q): Viktor zaps one enemy for magic damage, gets a shield that blocks some incoming damage and makes his next basic attack hit harder. Once upgraded, the shield gets 60% stronger and Viktor runs 30% faster for 2.5 seconds, which helps him dodge attacks and chase enemies even though he has no dash.
Gravity Field (W): Viktor places a field on the ground that slows down every enemy inside it, and enemies who stay in it too long get stunned, so they can't move or attack for a moment. Players mostly use it to stop enemies who run at Viktor. Once upgraded, every other ability also slows enemies by 20% for 1 second.
Hextech Ray (E): Viktor fires a laser in a straight line that hits every enemy in its path, which makes it his main damage tool and the fastest way to kill groups of minions. Once upgraded, the same line explodes a second time one second later.
Arcane Storm (R): Viktor's ultimate, his strongest ability, creates a storm that damages enemies and cancels any ability they are in the middle of casting, then keeps damaging anyone near it. How to Play Viktor in the Mid Lane
Viktor is weak before his first upgrades and strong once he has them, so each stage of the match asks for a different approach in the mid lane.
Viktor's game plan for each stage is the following:
Early game, collect gold and stay safe: Viktor should get the last hit on minions for gold, kill minion groups with Hextech Ray and keep Gravity Field ready for when the enemy jungler sneaks in. Fighting without a clear advantage usually ends badly before his first upgrade.
Mid game, fight near big objectives: His first finished item plus his first upgrade is when Viktor gets noticeably stronger. From there, he can hit enemies from a distance with Hextech Ray before fights at Dragon and Baron and help his team take towers.
Late game, control team fights from the back: With all abilities upgraded, Viktor stays behind teammates who can take hits, places Gravity Field where enemies want to walk and drops Arcane Storm on the biggest group of enemies.
