How to Get Platinum Camo in MW4 for Every Class

How to Get Platinum Camo in MW4 for Every Class

The MW4 Platinum camo is where the camo grind stops being about one gun. You can't touch a Platinum challenge until every weapon in that class wears Gold. How to get Platinum camo in MW4 really comes down to how you plan a whole class.

This guide covers the Gold gate, the MW4 Platinum challenges for all nine weapon classes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and what the step after Platinum, MW4 Harmonic Break, asks of you.

MW4 Platinum Camo Summary

  • Earn Gold on every gun in a class. The Platinum challenge for that class opens only after all its Gold challenges are done, so 8 Golds for Assault Rifles.

  • Learn your class challenge. Each class has one task, from headshots on Assault Rifles to prone player kills on Marksman and Sniper Rifles.

  • Mix modes freely. Activision says Platinum can be finished wholly or partly in Multiplayer or DMZ.

  • Use the HAN 86 as the reference. It needs 50 headshots against players in Multiplayer or 100 against enemies in DMZ.

  • Plan for 33. Activision's HAN 86 example puts Platinum on 33 weapons before Harmonic Break opens, though its general rule never says one class or all.

How Platinum Opens in MW4

Platinum opens per weapon class, after you finish every Gold challenge in that class. Activision's MW4 progression and prestige guide uses Assault Rifles as the example: all 8 Gold challenges first, HAN 86 included, then the HAN 86 Platinum challenge.

Gold itself sits behind all Military and Special camos on each gun. That makes Platinum the first reward that checks a full class. If one rifle is still on Military camos, the whole class waits for it. Our MW4 Gold camo guide covers that first step.

What does that mean for your first week? Level the class you plan to finish together. I'd rather have a full SMG class at Gold than one SMG at max level and the rest untouched.

MW4 Platinum Challenges by Weapon Class

MW4 Platinum Challenges by Weapon Class

Every class gets one challenge type for its MW4 platinum camo. The table follows Activision's guide:

Weapon class

Platinum challenge

Assault Rifles

Headshots

SMGs

Kills from behind

Shotguns

Hipfire kills

LMGs

Kills without dying

Marksman Rifles

Prone player kills

Sniper Rifles

Prone player kills

Pistols

Player kills from behind

Launchers

Player kills without taking damage

Melee

Kills without dying

The only official counts belong to the HAN 86. It asks for 50 headshots against players in Multiplayer or 100 headshots against enemies in DMZ, and you can split the work between both modes. Counts for other weapons may differ, and Activision hasn't listed them.

On the HAN 86, the DMZ count is double the Multiplayer one, and DMZ counts enemies where Multiplayer counts players. A DMZ regular can still lean on that route, since the guide allows partial progress in each mode. The patch notes call the camo grind shared across modes, and the new Warzone arrives with Season 1, per the MW4 launch patch notes.

Tips for the Hardest Platinum Challenges

I'd expect prone kills on Marksman and Sniper Rifles to take the longest. Pick a long sightline on a quiet flank, drop prone before the fight starts, and stay there for a few picks. Save it for larger Core maps.

Kills from behind on SMGs and Pistols reward flanking over holding angles. Objective modes help here, with the enemy team looking at a point and not at you. Build a flanking class from our best MW4 loadouts guide for it.

LMGs and Melee ask for kills without dying, which punishes greedy plays. Count one life as a session, take the safe fights, and back off once you hit a decent streak. On Launchers, player kills without taking damage mostly come from hitting enemies who never see you.

These tips are our own read. Activision's guide doesn't say whether private matches or bots count, so plan on public lobbies.

What Comes After Platinum

Harmonic Break comes next, and its gate is the tricky part. Activision's general rule says you need all Platinum challenges done first. Its HAN 86 example spells that out as Platinum on 33 weapons. Plan for the full arsenal until the in-game text says otherwise.

The HAN 86 then asks for 25 double kills against players in Multiplayer or 50 against enemies in DMZ. After 33 Harmonic Break challenges, Divergence opens Mastery 1. Our MW4 camos guide maps that whole ladder.

FAQs About MW4 Platinum Camo

How do you get Platinum camo in MW4?

Earn Gold on every weapon in a class, then finish that class's Platinum challenge on the gun you want. On the HAN 86, that means 50 headshots against players in Multiplayer or 100 against enemies in DMZ.

Can you do MW4 Platinum challenges in DMZ?

Yes. Activision says the challenge can be completed wholly or partly in Multiplayer or DMZ, so progress from both modes adds up.

How many Gold camos do you need for Platinum?

All of them in that weapon class. For Assault Rifles, that's 8 Golds before the first Platinum challenge opens.

Do you need Platinum for Harmonic Break?

Yes. You need all Platinum challenges done, and Activision's HAN 86 example lists Platinum on 33 weapons.

Final Words

Platinum is the first tier that rewards patience across a class. I'd expect a player who spreads time over all eight rifles to move faster here than one who maxes a single gun on day one.

Watch the LMG wording when you log in. Activision's guide prints Play Kills without Dying, and the in-game card should clarify whether that means player kills only.

Start with the class you already enjoy. Which one will you finish first, the rifles or the SMGs?
