About Age of Empires IV: Dynasties of the East

Age of Empires IV: Dynasties of the East is an expansion that introduces four variant civilizations, a new single-player mode, eight maps, and six biomes. Each addition builds on the core real-time strategy gameplay with new mechanics, tactical choices, and ways to approach both single-player and multiplayer battles.

The Golden Horde is a Mongol variant focused on centralized military power. It replaces some of the traditional nomadic complexity with a combat-focused Khan, elite guards, multiple Ovoos, large armies, and strategic decisions made from the Golden Tent.

The Macedonian Dynasty expands upon the Byzantines with foreign-born Varangian warriors, a powerful economy, and rapid expansion. Silver becomes an important resource that can be produced and traded to strengthen the civilization’s military and support continued conquest.

Sengoku Daimyo reimagines the Japanese during the fractured Sengoku era. Players can pledge allegiance to the Takeda, Oda, or Hojo banners, with each faction offering its own bonuses, technologies, and units. Daimyo Estates allow players to shape their development and commit to different strategic paths.

The Tughlaq Dynasty builds upon the Delhi Sultanate through a new Governorship system. Appointed governors provide different benefits, while the Worker Elephant and Ballista Elephant introduce new economic and siege options.

Dynasties of the East also introduces The Crucible, a roguelite-inspired single-player mode built around changing objectives, escalating enemy attacks, and procedural missions. Every run requires players to protect their Wonder, adapt to unpredictable conditions, and survive for as long as possible.

During Crucible missions, players can select powerful Boons, complete optional objectives, discover hidden Points of Interest, and earn Perk Points for permanent upgrades. The longer a run lasts, the greater the challenge and potential reward.

Six new biomes add visual and tactical variety to matches. These include the Tropical Rainforest, Temperate Fall, Greek Islands, and Black Sand Beach, each offering different surroundings and subtle considerations for movement, positioning, and planning.

The expansion also includes eight maps, ranging from more competitive layouts to unusual environments with chokepoints, hidden treasure, natural barriers, and other strategic features. Maps such as Craters, Nomadic Tarns, Ridges, Cliffsanity, and Michi encourage different playstyles.
