About Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend

Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend is a major expansion that introduces a new campaign set in the Middle East during the European Crusades. Players take control of the Muslim resistance, follow prominent historical leaders, and experience conflicts against the Crusader states, military orders, and Mongol forces.

The Sultans Ascend campaign includes eight missions focused on the strategies and victories of leaders such as Tughtekin, Nur al-Din, Shirkuh, Saladin, Qutuz, Baybars, Shajar al-Durr, and Barsbay. Each chapter explores a different stage of the resistance and the political and military struggles that shaped the region.

This is also the first Age of Empires IV campaign to feature naval gameplay. Battles take place across both land and sea, with new heroes, abilities, and mechanics providing additional ways to defend territory and overcome enemy forces.

The expansion introduces two completely new playable civilizations: the Japanese and the Byzantines. Both civilizations feature distinctive units, technologies, economic systems, architecture, and tactical options that provide new approaches to building and warfare.

Four variant civilizations are also included, reimagining factions previously introduced in the base game. These variants use familiar foundations while changing their units, mechanics, bonuses, and strategic identities.

The Sultans Ascend adds 10 new maps for skirmish and multiplayer matches. These environments provide fresh terrain layouts, resources, defensive positions, and tactical challenges for both casual and competitive players.
