Each session takes place aboard one of several maps, including a spaceship, a research station, and other facilities. Most players take on the role of Crewmate and are assigned a series of tasks to complete across the map, from fixing wiring to submitting data. One or more players are secretly assigned as Impostors, whose goal is to kill Crewmates without being caught, sabotage critical systems to create chaos, and blend in convincingly during discussions.
When a body is reported, or an Emergency Meeting is called, all players debate and vote on who they believe the Impostor is. Crewmates win by successfully identifying and ejecting all Impostors, or by completing every assigned task. Impostors win by reducing the Crewmate count low enough to avoid a majority vote, or by completing a critical sabotage that is not repaired in time.
Sessions support between four and fifteen players with full cross-platform play across PC, mobile, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. Five maps are available across the game's lifespan, each with unique layouts, task sets, and sabotage mechanics. An in-game cosmetic system covers hats, pets, colors, and nameplates, with additional paid cosmetics available that do not affect gameplay.
