About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, with additional support from Raven Software and Treyarch, and published by Activision. It was released on November 8, 2011, for PC via Steam, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. It is the third and final installment in the original Modern Warfare trilogy and the eighth Call of Duty game overall.
The campaign picks up immediately after the ending of Modern Warfare 2, with Captain Price recovering alongside a gravely wounded Soap MacTavish and a newly introduced character, Yuri, as Task Force 141 pursues Vladimir Makarov across a global conflict. The story spans locations including a besieged New York, London, Paris, Prague, Berlin, Dubai, and Mogadishu, escalating the scale of the previous two entries while closing out the storylines established in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Multiplayer replaces the killstreak system with a Strike Chain built around three Strike Packages: Assault, which rewards kills for offensive streaks; Support, which builds toward streaks through any team contribution regardless of deaths; and Specialist, which grants stacking perk bonuses rather than killstreak rewards. Weapon Proficiencies add an additional layer of customization to each individual weapon, unlocking specific traits as the weapon levels up. Each weapon carries its own rank track, requiring players to use it consistently to unlock its full range of attachments and proficiencies.
Special Ops returns from Modern Warfare 2 with two modes. Mission Mode offers a set of structured, objective-based challenges playable solo or cooperatively. Survival Mode is a new wave-based addition placing players on multiplayer maps to fight off escalating waves of AI enemies, with increasing difficulty bringing Juggernauts, attack dogs, and air support into later rounds. The waves continue until all players are eliminated with no possibility of winning, only surviving longer. The game holds a Metacritic score of 78 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
