About Chivalry II
Chivalry II is a multiplayer hack-and-slash action game developed by Torn Banner Studios and published by Tripwire Interactive. Originally released on June 8, 2021, for the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, the Steam version arrived on June 12, 2022. It is the sequel to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, which Torn Banner released in 2012, and was built with a significantly larger scale as the core design goal.
The game is set in a prolonged conflict between two factions, the Agatha Knights and the Mason Order, as they wage war across a series of historically inspired medieval environments. Maps are built around multi-stage objective sequences, with attacking teams pushing through gates, destroying siege equipment, burning villages, storming castle walls, and eliminating high-value targets across a connected series of escalating battles. Up to 64 players per server take part in these encounters, with the scale of each map designed to make every battle feel cinematic rather than focused on individual skirmishes.
Four main classes are available, each divided into subclasses that shape the player's weapon selection and role: the Knight, covering heavy frontline fighters; the Footman, a versatile mid-range class; the Vanguard, a fast and aggressive two-handed weapon specialist; and the Archer, handling ranged combat through bows, crossbows, and javelins. Each class also has access to a secondary melee weapon for close quarters. Weapons are selected from a broad roster covering war hammers, longswords, battle axes, maces, halberds, and more, with the option to pick up any weapon found on the ground mid-battle, including environmental objects such as fish, chairs, and turkey legs in the game's brawl mode.
Melee combat is built around a system of light attacks, heavy attacks, stabs, overhead slashes, blocks, ripostes, kicks, and feints. Torn Banner designed the system to feel more like a bar fight than a fencing match, prioritizing readability and momentum over simulation-level precision. Horses, castle siege equipment including catapults and trebuchets, boiling oil, and fire arrows add further layers to the battlefield.
A Brawl mode supports free-for-all matches of up to 40 players, restricted to improvised weapons only. Cross-platform play is supported across all platforms. Regicide, the game's final major content update, was released on May 22, 2024. Chivalry II holds a Metacritic score of 82 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
