Coral Island is a farming simulation RPG developed by Stairway Games, an Indonesian studio, and published by Humble Games. It entered Steam Early Access in October 2022 and was fully released on November 14, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game was funded through a Kickstarter campaign in February 2021 that raised over $1.6 million from more than 36,000 backers, reaching its initial goal in under 36 hours.
The player leaves behind city life in the fictional metropolis of Pokyo and settles on Coral Island, a tropical paradise with an overrun farm, a struggling town, and a coral reef suffering from the effects of industrial pollution. Pufferfish Drilling Corp., a corporation with designs on the island's resources, forms the game's central antagonistic threat alongside the broader environmental storyline. Players work to revitalise the town, restore the reef, and decide how much of the island's fate is in their hands through the choices they make across each in-game year.
Farming forms the core of the daily loop, covering crop planting, animal care, tool upgrades, and building expansions across a customizable farm. The town's community projects and museum restoration provide mid-to-long term goals that reward consistent engagement with the island's various activities. A cast of over 70 characters, each with their own schedules, dialogue, and personal storylines, includes 25 dateable NPCs for players who want to pursue romance, marriage, and eventually raise a family on the island.
Coral Island draws its visual and cultural identity from Southeast Asian traditions, incorporating Indonesian architecture, local plant and animal species, and traditional recipes into its cooking system. Underwater diving is a dedicated gameplay layer, letting players clean debris from the ocean floor to restore the coral reef and explore the Merfolk Kingdom, an underwater village home to its own cast of characters and questlines. Mining, fishing, and insect catching round out the range of activities available outside the farm itself.
An online multiplayer mode supporting up to four players was added on August 14, 2025, allowing friends to build and run a shared farm together. The game holds a Very Positive rating on Steam and was nominated for the Sit Back and Relax award at the 2023 Steam Awards. Coral Island holds a Metacritic score of 82.
