About Dark Souls 3
Dark Souls 3 is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was released on April 11, 2016, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It is the third entry in the Dark Souls series and the final chapter in the franchise's central story arc.
The game is set in Lothric, a kingdom on the verge of collapse as the Age of Fire draws to a close. Players create the Ashen One, an unkindled warrior who rises from their grave to confront the Lords of Cinder: former heroes once summoned to link the First Flame who abandoned their duty. The task falls to the Ashen One to hunt them down across a series of interconnected areas and decide the fate of the flame.
Combat operates on a stamina system where every attack, block, and roll draws from a shared gauge. Precise timing and a solid read on each enemy's attack patterns is required to progress. Death returns the player to the last bonfire rested at and respawns all enemies in the area, with all accumulated Souls lost unless the player recovers them from the spot of their death. Embers temporarily raise maximum health and enable ally summoning for difficult encounters.
The Weapon Arts system, introduced in this entry, gives every weapon a dedicated special ability activated through a dedicated input. It expands the available playstyles significantly without locking players into a fixed role after character creation. Sorceries, pyromancies, and miracles offer additional options for ranged and hybrid approaches.
Online play supports cooperative co-op and PvP invasion throughout the campaign. Two DLC expansions are available separately: Ashes of Ariandel (October 24, 2016) and The Ringed City (March 27, 2017), both of which add new areas, bosses, weapons, and lore content. Dark Souls 3 holds a Metacritic score of 89 and an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam.
