Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition is an action-adventure game developed by Capcom Vancouver and published by Microsoft. Set in 2021, ten years after Dead Rising 2, the story follows Nick Ramos, a young mechanic desperately trying to find a way out of Los Perdidos before the government wipes the zombie-infested city off the map with a military strike. By this point in the timeline, the government has introduced Zombrex chips, GPS-tracked implants required for infected citizens to receive their regular medication, a system many refuse due to the tracking involved. The story explores this tension alongside Nick's escape, with hostile survivors playing a role in certain missions rather than existing purely as enemies to fight, as in earlier entries.
Los Perdidos is the largest open world in the series to date, rendering up to three times as many zombies on screen simultaneously compared to its predecessor. Combat leans heavily on Dead Rising's signature crafting system, letting players build combo weapons on the fly without needing a workbench, alongside combo vehicles that merge two vehicles into a single hybrid, each with two seats and a secondary attack to support co-op play. Vehicles double as both transportation and weapons, though zombies can cling to them and attack while driving.
Two-player online co-op is available in all game modes except an explicit single-player mode. The primary player controls Nick Ramos while a second player takes on Dick, a trucker who survived the outbreak. Both players can explore the map and complete side content separately, but main story missions require both players present, with any collected blueprints or completed challenges counting for both.
The four Untold Stories of Los Perdidos DLC packs included in the Apocalypse Edition each put players in control of a different character from the game's various factions: Adam Kane, a special forces commander; Angel Quijano, an infected survivor; Hunter Thibodeaux, a biker; and Brad Park, a ZDC agent. Each story adds new weapons, vehicles, and outfits usable from any safe house or auto shop in the main game, and uses save data from the main story, letting players continue leveling up their character without replaying the campaign from scratch. Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition holds a Metacritic score of 70 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
