What is Backdoor in League of Legends?

Backdoor Definition
Backdoor Definition

Backdooring refers to the strategy of sneaking behind enemy lines to attack vulnerable objectives like the inhibitor or nexus when the opponent is distracted elsewhere on the map. Unlike split pushing side lanes, backdooring requires the enemy's base entrances to already be compromised, with the inhibitor and/or nexus towers destroyed.

With the core objectives exposed, players can stealthily maneuver into the enemy base, often by using fog of war, and rapidly destroy the nexus while the enemy team is busy contesting other objectives like Baron or Elder Dragon.

Ideal backdoor opportunities arise when the enemy is acutely focused on a major team fight or epic monster and fails to consider the vulnerability of their base. When executed properly at the right moment, backdooring provides a risky but potential game-winning play.
