About DiRT Showdown
DiRT Showdown is an arcade racing spin-off developed and published by Codemasters. It was released on May 25, 2012, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, as the tenth entry in the broader Colin McRae series and the fourth entry under the DiRT name. Unlike the more simulation-leaning entries that preceded it, Showdown leans fully into arcade physics and spectacle, moving away from rally simulation in favor of destruction and trick-based events.
The game divides its content into four main event classes. Race events include Domination, Eliminator, and Race Off, testing speed and positioning across traditional lap-based competition. Demolition events, including Destruction Derby, Rampage, and Hard Target, shift the focus toward wrecking opponents or surviving as the target of a chase. Hoonigan events put a spotlight on stunt driving and trick execution, expanding on the Gymkhana mode from earlier DiRT titles. A Party mode rounds out the offerings for more casual, chaotic sessions. A day and night cycle and dynamic weather system add visual variety across the game's American-themed locations, though the advanced damage modeling is largely cosmetic and has little effect on actual vehicle performance.
The vehicle roster blends licensed rally cars with fictional vehicles built specifically for demolition-focused events. Completing events earns money used to purchase new vehicles or upgrade existing ones, gradually unlocking access to tougher competitions. Boost, appearing for the first time in the series with this entry, refills over time and can be used to gain a speed advantage during races and events.
