About Divinity: Original Sin II

Divinity: Original Sin II is a turn-based tactical RPG developed and published by Larian Studios. It was released on September 14, 2017, for PC, following a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over two million dollars and an Early Access period beginning in September 2016. Console versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One followed on August 31, 2018. It is the sequel to Divinity: Original Sin (2014) and went on to win a BAFTA Game Award alongside multiple Game of the Year nominations.

The story is set in Rivellon, centuries after the events of the first game. The world is under threat from the Voidwoken, creatures of a corrupting darkness whose appearances are tied to the use of Source, a powerful and forbidden form of magic. Sourcerers are hunted and collared by the Divine Order to suppress their abilities, and the player's character is one of those captured and sent to Fort Joy, a prison island from which the story begins. From there, the narrative opens into a large world where players uncover the truth behind the Divine Order, the death of Lucian the Divine, and the path to ascending as a new god.

Character creation offers six preset Origin characters, each with their own backstory, personal questlines, and unique dialogue throughout the game: Fane, an undead survivor of a forgotten immortal race; the Red Prince, a lizard exile on a quest to reclaim his birthright; Ifan ben-Mezd, a former Divine Order soldier turned mercenary; Lohse, a human musician fighting possession by an internal demon; Beast, a dwarf rebelling against his own queen; and Sebille, an elf seeking revenge on those who enslaved her. Players can also create a fully custom character. Any of the six Origins not chosen as the player character can be recruited as party companions.

Combat is turn-based with a heavy emphasis on environmental interaction. Fire spreads across oil slicks, poison clouds can be ignited, water conducts electricity, and height provides range and accuracy advantages. Over 200 skills across 12 schools let players build freely without fixed class restrictions. Up to four players can play together online or in split-screen co-op, with the game's quests and dialogue fully reactive to which characters are present and what choices have been made.

Game Master Mode lets one player build and run a custom campaign for up to three others in real time, with tools for placing enemies, creating encounters, and importing community-made modules. Divinity: Original Sin II holds a Metacritic score of 93 and an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam.
