About DOOM Eternal
DOOM Eternal is a first-person shooter developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was released on March 20, 2020, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version following on December 8, 2020, and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions arriving on June 29, 2021. It is the seventh game in the Doom series and a direct sequel to Doom (2016).
Set in 2163, fourteen years after the events of the previous game, demonic forces have overrun Earth and wiped out the majority of its population under a corrupted Union Aerospace Corporation. The Doom Slayer returns aboard the Fortress of Doom, a satellite base controlled by the AI VEGA, on a mission to kill the Hell Priests serving the Khan Maykr, an angelic being seeking to sacrifice humanity to preserve the balance of power between Heaven and Hell.
Combat builds on Doom (2016) with a faster, more aggressive resource management loop. Glory kills restore health, incinerating enemies with the Praetor Suit's flamethrower yields armor, and chainsawing demons refills ammo, pushing players to stay constantly on the offensive rather than retreating to cover.
The arsenal expands with new tools, including the wrist-mounted Doom Blade and the Super Shotgun's Meat Hook, a grappling attachment that lets the Slayer close distance instantly. Mobility receives major upgrades as well, with double dashes, monkey bar swinging, and wall climbing adding a platforming dimension previously absent from the series.
Over 40 enemy types populate the game, including returning classics like the Pain Elemental and Archvile, redesigned to match the visual style of the original Doom games, alongside new threats such as the Doom Hunter and the Marauder. Battlemode, developed entirely in-house by id Software, is the game's multiplayer mode, pitting a fully armed Doom Slayer against two player-controlled demons in best-of-five round matches. DOOM Eternal holds a Metacritic score of 88 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.

No, though it helps with context. DOOM Eternal is a direct narrative sequel to Doom (2016) and continues its story, characters, and setting. The game can be followed without having played the previous entry, but playing Doom (2016) first gives a clearer picture of the Slayer's backstory and the events leading into Eternal.
Battlemode is DOOM Eternal's multiplayer mode, developed entirely in-house by id Software. It pits one player controlling a fully armed Doom Slayer against two players controlling demons, fighting across a best-of-five round match. It replaces the external multiplayer used in Doom (2016).
No. The standard purchase includes the full single-player campaign and Battlemode only. The Ancient Gods Part One and Part Two campaign expansions, along with all cosmetic packs, are included in the Deluxe Edition or sold separately.
DOOM Eternal builds significantly on its predecessor with a faster, more aggressive resource management system tied to Glory Kills, incineration, and chainsaw executions. Mobility is greatly expanded with double dashes, monkey bars, and wall climbing, and the enemy roster grows to over 40 types with redesigned classics and new threats like the Marauder. The story also receives a much heavier focus, with deeper lore and a larger emphasis on cinematic storytelling than the previous reboot entry.
