About Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is a 2D fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Cygames. It was released on December 14, 2023, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The game is a sequel to Granblue Fantasy: Versus, designed to carry the series to a new level of polish and accessibility while adding new mechanics like Dash Attacks and an updated Triple Attack system.
Simplified input options let newcomers execute special moves with a single button press, letting them focus on the flow and strategy of a match rather than memorizing complex inputs, while more technical execution remains available for veteran players who want it. A story campaign runs through an action RPG-inspired adventure across the world of Granblue Fantasy, gradually teaching combat fundamentals as players progress through its quests. Arcade Mode offers a range of difficulty tiers for single-player challenge runs, and an extensive Training Mode gives players the tools to fine-tune their skills against specific matchups.
Grand Bruise Legends is the game's headline new addition, a party mode set in an island lobby filled with minigames, obstacle courses, and survival challenges players can compete in against others online, offering a lighter alternative to standard one-on-one matches. Players can also select a Partner character to accompany them through matches, offering commentary and encouragement, and a Digital Figure Studio lets players build custom dioramas using a large collection of 3D models pulled from across the Granblue Fantasy Versus series.
Rollback netcode and full crossplay connect players across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Two Character Passes have added a steady stream of new fighters since launch, including guest character 2B from NieR: Automata, with additional characters continuing to release through 2026. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising holds a Metacritic score of 88 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
