Description
Your team of prisoners is dropped into the Rundown when a new Work Order is issued by The Warden, the mysterious entity holding you captive. The Rundown is a series of expeditions, each one taking you deeper into a decayed research facility called The Complex. You descend level by level, scavenging tools and resources that help you survive in a perilous network of tunnels where gruesome creatures lurk in every shadow. Complete all the expeditions to fulfill the Work Order and clear the Rundown.

GTFO is designed for prisoner teams of four, putting cooperation at the core of the experience. Bots can fill your lineup if you’re short one or two players. They’ll follow you through expeditions, sneak when you sneak, collect resources, and fight alongside you. They’re a good fallback, but the level of communication and tactical combat in GTFO means it’s best to play with people.

A strategy is necessary to clear the Rundown. Before you drop into The Complex, your team needs to decide what gear, boosters, and weapons to bring. You must also balance the team, identifying the function of each prisoner so that you know what to do when things go wrong. And they will. They always do.

Stealth and coordination are necessary to survive as you maneuver through The Complex. Many of the creatures of GTFO are suspended in a state of hibernation, so light, noise, and vibrations can easily wake up these Sleepers. And if one of them knows you’re there, they all know. That’s when things get messy.

You’ll need heavy weaponry and a clear mind when the shit hits the fan. Check your line of fire, force them through bottlenecks, set up your kill zones and reload every chance you get. These creatures stop at nothing, and neither should you. Once the mayhem starts, you have no choice but to put every last one of them down.
Clearing expeditions and Rundowns will reward you with new cosmetic gear. Wear it with pride, as it proves to your peers you’ve been to hell and back. The Sleepers, on the other hand, will not care for a second.

About GTFO
GTFO is a four-player cooperative first-person shooter developed and published by 10 Chambers. It entered Steam Early Access on December 9, 2019, and launched fully on December 10, 2021, live at The Game Awards. The final content update, Rundown 8.0, was released on December 8, 2023.
The game follows a group of prisoners trapped in a vast underground facility called the Complex. An unknown entity known as the Warden forces them into its depths to carry out extraction and retrieval objectives, navigating corridors filled with grotesque, flesh-eating creatures called Sleepers. The story unfolds through artifacts, environmental details, and fragments of audio uncovered across expeditions rather than through cutscenes.
Gameplay is demanding by design. Before each expedition, players select a loadout from a pool of weapons and tools, including flashlights, foam grenades, bioscanners, mines, and sentry turrets, and must plan their approach. Inside the Complex, Sleepers remain dormant until disturbed by sound or light. Teams must move carefully, using tools to neutralize threats quietly before alarms trigger mass enemy responses. When combat does break out, ammunition is limited, and coordination under pressure is essential.
Content is organized into Rundowns, each containing a set of expeditions with escalating difficulty and new environmental conditions. Eight Rundowns were released across the game's Early Access period and post-launch updates, concluding with the final chapter in Rundown 8.0. AI bot companions are available for players who do not have a full group, allowing solo or partial team play.
GTFO contains no pay-to-win mechanics, microtransactions, or loot boxes.GTFO holds a Metacritic score of 78 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.

Yes, with limitations. GTFO is designed around four-player co-op, but AI bots are available to fill missing slots, allowing solo or partial group play. The experience is significantly harder without human teammates, as the game's design assumes coordinated communication between real players.
GTFO is one of the more demanding co-op games available. Expeditions require planning, precise movement, and consistent team communication. A single mistake can trigger alarms that send waves of enemies at the group, and resources are too limited to fight through problems carelessly. The difficulty is a core part of what the game offers rather than a flaw.
GTFO received its final content update with Rundown 8.0 in December 2023. The game is considered content-complete and is no longer receiving new updates. All eight Rundowns of missions are accessible with a single purchase.
No. GTFO has no pay-to-win mechanics, microtransactions, or loot boxes of any kind. Everything in the game is accessible through normal play.
