Holdfast: Nations At War is a multiplayer first and third-person roleplay shooter developed and published by Anvil Game Studios. Development began in June 2014, with the studio's stated goal of building a competitive, teamwork-oriented multiplayer game inspired by the Napoleonic Era. The game entered Steam Early Access on September 21, 2017, and reached its official 1.0 release on March 5, 2020, following over two years of updates driven by community feedback. Console versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launched on July 9, 2025, with full crossplay support across all platforms.
The game is set primarily in the Napoleonic Era, with mechanics built around the tools of the time: muskets, cannon, and warships from the golden age of sail. Players engage in large-scale battles across multiple fronts, supporting over 150 players per server, covering land combat, naval warfare, and artillery. A free total conversion DLC called Holdfast: Frontlines, released as a thank-you to the community, moved the setting to World War I, expanding the game's scope to a second historical era entirely.
