About Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a Metroidvania action-adventure game developed and published by Team Cherry, an independent studio based in Australia. It was released on September 4, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is the full standalone sequel to Hollow Knight (2017), originally planned as downloadable content before growing significantly enough in scope to become its own release.

The story follows Hornet, last seen as an adversary and later as an ally in Hollow Knight, who is captured by an unknown force and taken to Pharloom, a kingdom entirely separate from the underground world of Hallownest. Ruled by silk and song, Pharloom is a layered kingdom of mossy grottos, gilded cities, and misted moors stretching upward to a shining citadel at its peak. Hornet must fight her way to the top, uncovering secrets tied to her own nature and past along the way.

Gameplay builds on Hollow Knight's interconnected world exploration and precise combat while reworking the core mechanics around Hornet's more acrobatic moveset. Her needle-based combat is faster and more mobile than the original protagonist's nail swings, and she heals faster, shifting the game's rhythm toward more aggressive play. Tools form the primary progression system in place of charms, divided into passive blue and yellow tools and manually activated red tools with limited charges that refill at Benches using Shell Shards. A quest system called Wishes tracks side quests given by NPCs or found on boards, encouraging exploration and revisiting areas as the game develops.

Over 200 enemy types populate the world, along with a large roster of boss encounters. A full original soundtrack was composed by Christopher Larkin, continuing his work from the first game. The first free DLC expansion, Sea of Sorrow, was announced in December 2025 and is scheduled for release in 2026. Hollow Knight: Silksong holds a Metacritic score of 90 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
