About Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition is an open-world action RPG developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, with the PC port handled by Nixxes Software. The base game was originally released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2022. The Complete Edition, bundling the base game with the Burning Shores expansion, launched on Steam on March 21, 2024.

The story follows Aloy six months after the events of Horizon Zero Dawn. A mysterious blight is spreading across the land, killing all organic life it touches, and massive storms are growing more frequent and more destructive. Aloy heads west into the Forbidden West, an uncharted frontier spanning Utah to the Pacific coast, to find the source of the plague and stop another extinction-level event before it can reach completion. Along the way, she encounters hostile new tribes, forms new alliances, and uncovers more of the history of the ancient world that came before.

Combat expands significantly over the original game. 43 machines populate the world, 22 of which are new, each with distinct behaviors, elemental variants, and weaknesses that reward preparation and tool selection before engaging. Melee combat receives a dedicated Valor Surge system that builds through strikes and releases powerful finishing moves. New traversal tools are introduced alongside freeform climbing surfaces, and a Shieldwing glider opens up aerial traversal across the open world. Underwater exploration is added as a fully supported gameplay layer, with its own machines, resources, and routes that were not present in Zero Dawn.

Burning Shores continues the story after the main game's conclusion, taking Aloy to a treacherous volcanic archipelago built over the sunken ruins of Los Angeles. It adds new storylines, characters, machines, and weapons, along with the Waterwing mount for aerial traversal exclusive to the expansion.

The PC version supports unlocked frame rates, ultrawide and super ultrawide resolutions up to 48:9 for triple-monitor setups, NVIDIA DLSS 3 upscaling and frame generation, AMD FSR, Intel XeSS, NVIDIA DLAA, and full DualSense controller support including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers over a wired connection.
